need some MAJOR help with an error

ok, here's my problem. i go to install Grand Prix Legends onto my pc. I load the disc, select install game and it comes up with this message:

C:\\windows\system32\autoexec.nt This file is not compatible with running MS-DOS and windows applications. Click Close to terminate the program.

this REALLY hacks me off and I need help in solving it. i found this fix which replaces the neccesary windows xp components to get rid of it. i tried it, and it gets rid of the message, but it does nothing. i have also tried the support ting form microsoft and that doesn't work either. I NEED HELP URGENTLY, SO PLEASE, IF ANYONE CAN HELP, PLEASE CAN THEY POST A SOLUTION! thank you...:indiff:

Have you bothered to read the whole thread?

This is from the 5th Post:
Ok, I had the same problem. This is how I fixed it. Open the C:\Windows\repair folder. Copy the autoexec.nt file. Now open the C:\Windows\system32 folder. Paste, and you are done
There are also other posts down the thread that could help.

Since you're using XP... There is an option to "downgrade" the OS, so that it behaves like a lower-spec OS when you run specific applications. I can't remember more about it than that, but if you search Technet (http://search.support.microsoft.com) you should be able to find something.

I think you're referring to "Compatibility Mode". You should be about to enable it on whatever shortcut you use to launch the program by the following:

right-click on the shortcut/executable>click properties>click Compatibility Tab>Check Run this program under Compatibility mode for: box>Select Appropriate OS>Click Apply and Ok.

Whether it works or not, I am unsure because I've never had a reason to use it.

Easy stuff. Sounds like you're trying to install a DOS app, right? And by the error description you're using either 2000 Professional or XP. These Windows NT based operating systems have no DOS support. This means that you can only run Windows based programs. Newer versions of Windows XP's compatability MAY provide a solution, but there's no guarantee.

I was super POed, too, when I found out Stunts! wouldn't run in XP compatability mode. =|:embarrassed:)
