So apparently some really nasty piece of work has decided to put needles inside strawberry's in Australia which are then sold in supermarkets.

Now Apples and Bananas are starting to appear with needles inside them. Strawberry prices have dropped in the country and supermarkets are pulling them off the shelves.

A question to the Aussie GTPers, are you aware of this, and if so, what have you done in reaction?

Yes it's a massive problem, the Apple that was found with a Nail in it is just down the road from me.

It's having a devastating effect on the fruit industry.

I have no problem getting fruit still just make sure to cut it up before eating, although this problem I don't think is going away anytime soon.

Reminds me of when growing up in the 90s and the idiots who spread
fear into the population by jamming razor blades from underneath and in between
the sections of waterslides. I remember hearing about this one girl who sliced her thigh open
going down the slide. That made me stop going to waterparks altogether. :nervous:

We bought strawberries from Woolies last week. All good with that pack. I've always been cautious with my food. So, it's more about the investigation for me.

Recently here in Austria we had a somewhat tamer version of this going on, some crazies put nails into corn cobs so that harvesting machines would either get damaged or cut up the nails so the corn was contaminated with sharp pieces of metal.

I have no idea what is going on in such demented idiot brains.

I dont buy my veggies or fruits from woolies or coles.

But from a local vegetable and fruit shop but I still chop up the fruits or vegetables.

Better safe than sorry.

The Banana that had a needle in it was a Local Fruit shop.

Just read about it on a news article that local shops are also affected.

What the hell is going on.
If it's happening at local shops and chain stores it's either a widespread conspiracy or it's happening at the distribution level...or both. I'd guess the latter meaning no fruit source is safe at the moment.

We have this happen to candy every Halloween. Not to mention people trying to give kids ecstasy since they look like candy.
It sad what people do to get their jollies.
Y'all be safe my upside down friends.

Didn't they arrest a kid who confessed already? I thought I heard that on the radio.

Yea we have a version of this in the states too where companies will slip crap candy like almond joy into a bag of candy. Some people mix in candy corn too, it's horrible. The unsuspecting kid that bites into a candy corn or almond joy will basically never have another Halloween. Monsters.

In all seriousness, I guess it's time to wash your fruit and then pass it by the giant kitchen electromagnet before eating.

Edit: I'm reminded of the guy that mixed in skittles with m&ms. I think I might rather find a needle.

We had some of those Aussie strawberries in our supermarkets in NZ, they all got pulled from the shelves.
I guess I'm a bit lucky, my kids love strawberries and demolish them without even looking, I saw them in the shops and thought about buying some....Luckily the were very overpriced so decided to pass.
