I was involved in someone else's accident two days ago. Simply put, I was waiting at an interection just a 1/2 mile from my house, running an errand. I'm in the front of the light, waiting for the light to turn green.
The other cars are turning left, I'm patiently awaiting my turn to go forward and home. The arrow has changed from green to yellow. An unwise soul has tried to rush through the turn. The pavement is wet, and he skids into my car.
Almost head-on! What a hit!
This Taurus has wholloped by car! The hit was about 20-25mph, but has completely savaged my front-end. The rear of my Neon was smacked into the back of a Jeep, but relatively minor damage compared to the front.
I have Progressive Insurance, and they
come out to the accident site (at least Mr. Taurus driver is nice enough to let me use his cellphone). The first thing the guy says upon arrival..."I hope you know your car is going to be totaled"..."it's not worth much, so it's in your best interest (read: their interest) to just take it as a write off."
So my car is history, about to donate it's parts to other Neons around the globe. I'm pissed, but I knew it would come down to this one day.
I'm not mad at the other driver, I'm mad at the insurance company. They are going to agree with me on the value of the car, which might be $1500-3000, if I'm lucky. I have no clue what kind of car that will get me. I realize that amount is probably what I'll spend on repairs alone on some junker.
Well, that said, I'm saying goodbye to a good freind and pal over the past 7 years. My Neon protected me, provided a bunch of good and bad times, and was quite reliable over it's 160,000 miles.
