**New Audi A8**

Well the Germans have given the :audi: A8 a makeover. Not any drastic changes really still big and silver with plenty Horses :horse:

The New Audi A8
...although you almost can't tell

For the more portly amongst us seeking Fast Autobahn Transport, the Audi A8 has just received a welcome facelift. A subtle entrant to the class the Audi has never screamed and shouted about its presence in that sector, just assumed a dignified grace by providing one of the best looking FAT cars around.

They've taken no 7-series risks with the facelift. At the front you'd struggle to tell the difference and whilst the rear is different it's very conservatively styled.

It comes with either a 3.7 litre V8 (280bhp) or a 4.2 litre (335bhp) although we can expect to see a hotter version in due course. Both cars are four wheel drive.

Only 100,000 of the previous model were built from 1994.

So what's everyone think? Now correct me if I'm completely wrong but doesn't the rear look familiar :magnify:....mmm :vw: Phaeton springs to mind 💡

Looks disturbingly like a Volvo V40 from the back! The front is pure corporate Audi, although they do well to preserve the proportions across the model ranges.

Let's just wait for the RS8!

mmmm seeing as :audi: and :vw: are in one group it might explain the familiarity between the Audi A8 and this VW Phaeton?

There are subtle differences but it's pretty similar don't you think? 💡

Well, yes, I'd say the Phaeton does come to mind. If you agree with the rumour that VW & Audi are splitting (with VW becoming what Audi used to be) the similarity is sort of like the passing of the baton. Starting with the A3/Golf, leading to the A4/Passat, and now the A8/Phaeton. I would guess that a year or so after this, VW & Audi will formally split and Audi will branch off into some other -- hopefully S#/RS# sporty -- direction.

OnTopic: I like the design. I've always been a fan of VAG. Not exactly ItalDesign works of art, but competent and very clean. About what you'd expect from German engineering.
