Hi,

I've recently upgraded my computer, I've got an ssd with the OS Installed on it, then a 3tb WD hard drive, however after the format and attempting to create the volume for the 3tb it has now become a 2tb hard drive volume with 750gb becoming unavailable. Why has this happened?

Thanks.

This has happened because you formatted it with a MBR partition table instead of a GPT.
And because MBR can only address up to 2TB of space, after all MBR was developed in the mid 80's were disk sizes were in kilobytes and megabytes.

To the following to fix
  1. Click Start
  2. Highlight Computer
  3. Right click computer
  4. Select Manage
  5. Double click on Storage
  6. Double click on Disk Management
  7. Right click the 3TB disk in question
  8. Select Convert to GPT Disk
  9. Right click the 2TB partition on the 3TB disk
  10. Select Extend Volume
  11. Follow the prompts to make it a 3TB
  12. Windows will now read it as a 2.79TiB drive
