Question about the new update listed for controllers.

9. Controller
 - The DUALSHOCK®4 motion sensor steering sensitivity has been adjusted so that steering requires less rotation.

10. Buttons Assignment
 - It is now possible to set throttle and brakes in the buttons assignments of the wireless and steering controllers. The settings can be changed from [Options] -> [Controller];
 - Fixed an issue where the operation of the left/right stick on the T-GT steering controller was affected by the wireless controller assignment settings.

Could you not assign throttle & brake to the square, triangle, Circle, X buttons before this?

If you can assign them now after the update isn't the PS4 controller no longer pressure sensitive?

I've been using triangle for the throttle and R2 for brake since GT5.
Has anyone else tried something like this out yet? If so how do you like it?

I have a ton of updates to go through and it will be after the holidays before I can play GTS so that's why I'm asking.

the sensitivity for DS4 doesn't feel very different, I tried playing with steering sensitivity and it just made it worse lol I use the triggers for gas/brake for modulation purposes and my buttons are for shift/handbrake/reverse. my biggest issues were that I could not turn enough using the controller so I hope that gets better, hoping my times are more competitive because controller vs wheel is a big crutch I believe. I won't be able to find out for another week, going out of town for the holidays. Enjoy!

Not sure about the rest but DS4 buttons are no longer pressure sensitive.

I use L2 for brakes and R2 for throttle. For me the problem with using the triangle or similar button is they are either on or off, no modulation whatsoever. The L2/R2 triggers offer complete modulation.

I noticed no change in the behavior of the DS4 following last nights updates.

The button assignments for the wheel (steering controller) is possibly to overcome the problem of people who due to a disability are unable to press the throttle and brake peddles. Until now they have been excluded from playing via their wheel because they couldn't reassign the functions away from the peddles. I think you could on previous GT games.

Thanks for all the replies

I know the sensitivity for the brake is a must for me but I'm not sure I use it that much for throttle. I know I do sometimes but nowhere near the extent as the brake.

I will be switching back and forth between GTS & GT6 for awhile so I was hoping GTS could be setup the same way but I will probably just have to adjust to using L2 & R2 for both games now.

i want to revert this motion steering update its horrible , i really liked how it felt before its too twitchy now . or at least give us some settings in option for this ingame

DR: S and SR: S using a controller. And too take it one step further on the noob meter, I also use X as the gas and square as the brake lol! I have to tap the throttle really freakin fast to try and hold a half throttle. It’s quite the challenge! But I dislike the feel of using the triggers. (Especially braking)

I think the motion control has a bigger dead zone or at least a more noticeable « snap » to it in the center when the wheels are straight. I don’t know if it make me faster but I don’t like the feeling...

Me too. I'm OK with throttle at R2, but turning with the joystick and having L2 is really difficult for me. I just checked, and I can assign brakes to R1. That helped in GT6, so things are looking up 👍

Turn Traction Control to ZERO for all of your cars and use the X button. Please report your results It will be like having Comfort Hard tires on your 900hp cars. Not fun, unless you’re in a burnout or donut contest. Even with the high resolution (broad range) of an actual brake pedal, we still use ABS. Try turning that off also.

I used R2 (accelerate) and square for brake in GT5 and 6 but I had to switch to triggers for both as they had specific button assignments for pedals and steering. The last update lets you have a mix and match of both.

(Switched from X and square for gears to L1&2.)

I read too many threads on sim racing boards, to not sense the implied notion, that driving without assists is more honorable/valuable/ethical than using them.
There are TCS, and ABS, (and CS, ASM) in the game, which work quite well. There are DS4 users at S/S, some of which even use X/Square for throttle/break who are proof that you don't necessarily need a wheel or have to switch off assists to race competitively. I think your point is merely hypothetical, insofar as I doubt there'll be Sport races with 900hp cars on Comfort Hards, nor should you ignore driving aids allowed by the game, if they make you faster, and more consistent. Why would you turn them off? If the regulations allow TCS, ABS, CS, and ASM, then by all means use them as you see fit. It's what any real world racing team, i.e. exhausting the regulation of a given race format, would do as well.
At the end of the day, a win is a win, no matter how it was achieved, as long as it's within the regulations. There are no points for effort in sports, thus no one cares whether you used TCS or not.

Yes the new motion sensor steering is twitchy and bad. It was perfect before. I'm sad. Do you think they will re adjust it?

My point was, it would be a miserable experience to turn all assists off with on/off digital buttons. This includes tuning an LSD to bring in the power gradually.

What a lot of people forget us many race cars are designed to use assists. Formula One has eliminated it in recent years. But, the tires have gotten a lot wider, stickier, and Ultra Soft tires last 20 laps! Which is one key aspect where sim racing drops the ball in terms of “realism”.

So last night I tried out my controller setup that I use on GT6. Brake (R2) accelerator (Triangle)
It's not as bad as I thought it might be but it's definitely not as smooth like GT6. Like @uMayBeSeated said tapping the button quickly is the only way it works.
I did that already but not as much. I will test out others suggestions to see how I like them.

As for using assist in the game I was against it when tuning is allowed but if I'm running completely stock with no tuning then I have no problem running ABS & TC because they are on real world cars.

I don't know if it is just me, but the feel with the DS4 feels more pre 1.06 after the last update. Not the actual physics but the feeling under braking and steering feels more responsive.

What control method are you using? For me using motion steering, it is mutch harder to get the right steering angle out of a corner. Now there is a lot of weaving left and right at cornet exists. More challenging.

Is there any change to how fast the throttle reacts? Seams like it is slower then before 1.10......

I don't know.. for me the feeling was totally gone under braking after 1.06 and also the steer feeling in longs fast corners, but it now seems to be back!!!

I'm using the triggers for gas and braking, L3 for steering. Mostly without assists, only ABS on weak and some Gr.3 cars with TC..

I've tried motion steering once but it doesn't work for me..

How has the steering feel in long cornea changed during gts life, beginning at the demo(or earlier)
