Just got the game and am having a real problem. I have no trouble getting into the slide but when I barely countersteer to catch the slide the car breaks loose and shoots the direction of the countersteer and into the wall. Anybody have any tips? Is it a setup thing? Or.... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sport mediums, to much grip? What are the best tyres for drifting?

90% of the people in the GTP drift community use CH. And try not to double post, mods around here don't like it. 👍

You'll get used to the slip and your better off around here anyway. If you use those tires you can enter comps and john a team!

Yeah that's the plan ultimately. This is my first GT since 3. I'm coming back from Forza and the drifting is quite a bit different. Just need to get used to the mechanics here and fig out some good setups and assist settings. Thanks for all the quick help though, and lack of a**hole comments for the new guy like so many other forums

This could be many things.

Try no aids, sports or comfort tires, and don't try to drift like on need for speed. Once in the slide feather the accelerator to try and maintain angle relative to the corners' bends.

99% of the forum does NOT use Comfort Hards. However, they are indeed the most popular, and they're especially good for learning the basics.

It sounds like your problem was too much countersteer and/or not enough throttle. Would have to see videos to know for sure, but it's a delicate balance.

True, 99% of the forum really doesn´t use CH... but more than the half of the Drifters in the GT5 Drifting forum do, and it had been proven more than once in diferent pools with the same purpose.

I didn't say everyone drifted on CH, I said 90%. The best drifters, in this game, are on CH tires.

Thats explain why i wasn´t quoting you, hahahaha...
Anyways, yeah... CH instantly doesn´t turns anyone in great drifters (like if it would be black magic), but all great drifters domain this kind of tires like a boss. 👍

question on track elevation/slope changes:

I use CM front, CH rear normally but I can drift CH/CH if needed.

I can put together great lines in just about anything FR/MR on Tsukuba and Suzuka East, Kart Space, Indy road course, SS Route 7, etc but I have fits with the second turn on Autumn Ring Mini, Trial Mountain and other courses with sloped turns.

I get sucked into the bottom of the turn with huge oversteer and speed loss. I know trying to stay on the high side of the Trial Mountain slopes helps but I still get sucked in.

Any tips are appreciated.

A well balanced car can get you in the right way 👍

I have a basic understanding of suspension, lsd, and gear setups. I've got dozens of cars with different setups in terms of power, suspension, and engine layout.

I think its more of an operator error. If it makes any difference, using a DS3 and I normally use a flick to initiate a drift, unless I come in too fast and don't have enough time/track to go, then I'll kick out the rear via e-brake.
