Nope - my only consideration is within the segment, and its competitors very obviously suck.
Just at the height of the anti-SUV craze, where one of the major arguments was that they look too intimidating, Dodge decides to come out with the Ram, with the most impending nose in the history of car design (yes, worse than the Rolls-Royce Phantom). It's got about 25lbs. of chrome/chromium on it, and its hood looks as if it weighs about 150lbs. total. It's got cartoon looks, and it isn't manly enough - and Conservative truck-owners need to look manly. Granted, though, I absolutely loved the first Ram, and if I were in the market for a pickup truck (as I will be in a few months) I would be looking at Dodge if they still sold the first one. I'm not since they updated it.
This **** debuted new all the way back in 1996 as a new '97 model. Chevrolet re-designed in 1999 and again (minorly) in 2003, Dodge re-designed in 2002, and Toyota was all-new for 2000. Ford just kept going. The above version (SuperCrew) was the only one really worth buying, as the rest were outclassed by their newer rivals. GM should be kicking themselves for not kicking Ford when they were down and taking over this market, but in truth, it's hard to fault them when the American public purchased more six-year-old "new" Ford F150s in 2002 than they did brand new Silverados and Sierras.
Agreed on the Avalanche, though you can't fault the idea, even if you don't like the looks. 👍
