Infiniti Debuts Dramatic Coupe Concept At 2006 North American International Auto Show

DETROIT (Jan 8, 2006) – Infiniti today unveiled a dramatic new concept vehicle, the Infiniti Coupe Concept, at the 2006 North American International Auto Show. Infiniti also showed the new 2006 FX luxury crossover SUV, which has been refined with exterior and interior enhancements and greater differentiation between the V8-powered FX45 and V6-equipped FX35 models.
The Coupe Concept continues the Infiniti tradition of merging design and performance. It takes Infiniti’s vibrant design vocabulary, which has helped establish Infiniti as one of the most dynamic brands in the luxury market, and elevates it to the next level.
Among the Coupe Concept’s exterior design features are a full-length glass panel roof, modulated front fenders and hood, deep front spoiler and large projector headlights, polished bare metal-look paint, compact camera outside rearview mirrors, hidden door handles and large 20-inch, 9-spoke painted aluminum-alloy wheels.
The Coupe Concept interior combines a performance-inspired ****************pit with a luxurious passengers’ space featuring a “double wave” instrument panel design, with large, violet-color gauge illumination and a dramatic, full-length center console. Specially textured aluminum accents project the image of traditional Japanese “Washi” paper, providing an added sense of warmth and crispness.
“The Infiniti Coupe Concept embraces the continuous advancement of Infiniti design with a unique combination of passion, imagination and creativity,” said Mark Igo, vice president and general manager, Infiniti.
Igo also provided an update on Infiniti business issues, including the fourth straight year of sales records. In 2005, Infiniti sold an all-time high of 136,401 units, an increase of 4.5 percent over calendar year 2004 sales.
“Infiniti sales have been strong across the entire model range,” said Igo. “We’re especially pleased with the acceptance in the marketplace of the all-new 2006 Infiniti M.”

Blazin's Note: Very nice looking I must say, I've liked the G35 since its release.

Some of the pics aren't working.

THe head on shot looks like an all new car but the others I see look like facelifts. Looks very nice still.

They working now? I tried to rehost them, if they don't work I'll do it through imageshack.

Very nice-looking indeed. Much sharper than the current G35.

As for whether or not it's a facelift, isn't the G35 still rather young? :odd: It would be too soon for a new generation. This could very well be a concept-only car, anyway. :)

Good point.

They are working now.

Kind of like the original better. "If it ain't broke". Design looks good, but a little overwrought for my tastes.

I must admit that this looks much better than the old G35. More agressive.

That said, it doesn't mean I like it. Dull car IMHO.

The cockpit is too tall and/or the hood slopes down too much. When I saw the first picture, I thought it was an Infiniti SUV and I had misread the title.

Current G35 > This

I love it! A great improvement from the already attractive G35 Coupe. I'd change the rims though, too bling.

wow, lots of mixed opinions here, I think this new design is damn sexy, but I like the old one too. As far as re-designing a car goes they took a step in the right direction.

Looks better than the old one, would look much nicer with the rims Jordan has on his G35.

I'm glad it's not too far from the current design... but it seems to fussy to me, and it does have hints of current Lexus concepts. As for it seeming too quick to replace the G35... the model line started in 2001 over in Japan, so a 2007 replacement really isn't unreasonable, especially considering that the GT-R will be on the new version of the FM platform. The G35 has to make the move at roughly the same time... though that means we should be seeing a 350Z replacement within a year or so.

I don't like the crease in the front bumper, and the rear end makes me think of the SC430, bizarrely. I'm sure it'll grow on me, but the original G35C is such a well-designed car.

Looks like the G35 went on the south beach diet... Losing a few pounds on the outside makes it look much more athletic, and it gives it a much more sporty appearance than the 350Z.

Ive liked the G35 since the begining, and I rooted it on when it fought my favorite Bimmer, the 330ci... The exhaust note is one of the best out there and sounds if anything, a bit like the Ferrari 360.

This is a great evolution of the model without going through a drastic change.

pros: Good looks at a good price, still can beat up on the German boys.
cons: G35 improvements to also hapeen to 350Z? BMW 330Ci on the way, so too is the new GTO...
verdict: A subtle improvement to the Japanese underdog that may tip the scales in it's favor.

G35 is a great car, dont get me wrong... But when I can spend the same ammount of money on a Pontiac GTO (aka Holden/Opel/Vauxhaull Monaro), I think I'd take the Goat instead.

...Considering that it will still cost the same as the Pontiac GTO or Chevrolet Camaro, I'll stick with the American 2+2 Musclecars instead.

On-topic, I think it looks better than the G35 we have out now. The only thing I don't like is the front bumper. It's too "pointy" (when looking at the third pic, at least).

Looks great to me, but I'm not sure I like the angle of the rear. The side profile has great lines though 👍

:odd: Argh... why is everyone heading toward caddi's look while still trying to maintain curvy. :grumpy: Also, the cheezy triangle shaped headlights and tails.

They took the G35 and some how made it hotter.
One of those would fill the boom-boom room in my mothers basement faster then the girls leaving when they sober up!

Overall, I really really like this concept! I am curious to see just how much of this they incorportate into the final design of the new coupe. Regardless, it's going to make my next car purchase all the more difficult! There's a few more images floating around.
