Ok, so it's kinda cheesy, but here are the three main options, there may be a combination of them though.
1:I post one picture of anything I want
(anything means anything, flowers, grass, planes, cheese, anything, and the previous winner picks the next one), and then everyone 'gets inspired' by the pic, and takes a picture in GT4 with a similar 'message'. The rest works like all other comps.

2:I post multiple pictures, and the contestants get inspired by their favorite one, and post which one they chose with their entry. This may or may not result in a poll for each picture. The rest is the same as 1.

3:You find a picture of anyhing you like, then take a GT4 pic just like in the other options. you then paste your inspiration onto the corner, or stitch them together or something.

All three require a host, but of course, there is no theme given for the first two, but a picture. Perhaps a theme would be given in the last one though.

Host: I'm busy. Between WRS racing, my gallery, other photo comps, and other things, I can't do it every week. Besides, I'd prefer me, as someone who's busy, not to have to do more, and someone who isn't busy, to have something to do. I think it works better like that.

Any comments on the idea are very welcome!

This sounds like a good idea, but it could be implemented into the current contests quite easily instead. We have a theme each week and that theme could easily be a single word which people can interpret however they want.

It would just be up to the previous weeks' winners to choose a great theme.

I voted for option one, although I also like option two, either way I think this competition should go ahead, but we need to see what more people say first.

I agree with Moglet in that this concept/idea could be integrated into existing comp's.
From what I could gather from the last part of your post you won't be able to run the comp, correct? So.. if it is decided that this new comp should be started, would someone be able run it?

I also agree with Moglet, this would work as a theme in any current comp. It would not an easy theme BTW. How would I take a GT4 photo that would have something to do with a flower? Hmmm? Well, maybe it could be done. :)

Good point, it would be quite difficult to take GT4 photos to some themes.
I actually remember a theme ages ago on a PMC that was 'green' or 'nature' or something. VuDa took an awesome shot of a yellow Beetle parked up on a large patch of grass.

That kind of theme could work well, as could themes such as specific colours or feelings, 'excitement' or 'pride' for example. But all of these could be implemented into the current contests. I definitely feel that the themes chosen by the previous weeks' winners could be more creative though. We're constantly getting 'Europe' or 'America' or car manufacturers.

I agree with all your points guys, but good themes are hard to come by, and by having a picture it's even more up to interpretation than a word. Plus, those themes like USA or german car, would never happen here, unless someone decided to post a US flag, which, could still have other ideas. The thing with a picture rather than a theme is there's more to a picture then the main idea. You could see a beetle crawling on the flower and say "hmm, I'll take a shot of a VW beetle." But I doubt there's ever going to be a theme "flowers and/or VW beetles" now is there?
Edit:
flower-picture-2.jpg

This pic is a good example, you could take something relating to anything in that picture; the flower itself, the color, or even some other creative imaginative part of the pic, it's nothing like saying, the theme is flowers, and even that's unlikely.

Option 1 is very interesting and the most consequent one of the three. IMHO, it has much more to do with creativity (sp?) than the earlier "creative comp". I also think it´s different enough from the other comps to make an own comp. The pic of the flower is a good example: I saw it and had right away some ideas in my head. The results of such a comp will be very different and interesting. MINICOOPER120 is right, an image says more than 1000 words, so there is much more room for interpretation and inspiration (sic!).
BTW, what will be the rules? I´d say they should be as open as possible (PSing), to make the most of the inspiration.
The question is however, will it stay over some time? Nevertheless I think it´s worth a try.

Prost!

Edit:

I think it could be easier, because there is no such thing as "one theme". There are as much themes as there are participants. And the themes will differ: Take the example above: One will try to make a pic of flowers in GT4, one will make use of the colour contrast orange-green, one will be inspired to post an exhaust flame, one will show radial blur, an orange sun... these are just the ideas I got from the pic in 2 minutes.
It is however very important for the winner to choose an image that lets room to many ideas. So there should be no real "message" to an image, but it should have a clear composition and be reduced to only a few elements. Just a few thoughts...

I think this is a good idea. It'd take some thinking, and people without an artistic mindset would probably have trouble coming up with good stuff, but it'd still be fun. Call it the "Inspiration Competition" or something. It'd be really random, and I don't know how well the actual "competition" part would work, so I'll make another change. Why do you have to make it a "competition"? You could just have a gallery to show what people think of certain pictures. I guess the competition would wok, but you'd have to judge based on your favorite, and not which one is actually "better".

Anyway, I think everyone should post pictures in here, now, of the ideas they get from that flower pic^. You couldl use the colors of the flower, a car shaped like a petal, or maybe even a tiny closeup of a part of the car that has a flowery shape, all sorts of stuff. I think the best test to see if a comp would work would be to post some up in here, minus the competition.

Gallery? Hmm, I don't really understand how that would work...
Anyway, thanks for the ideas guy, and although I agree you could take a picture of what that reminds you of, I don't know what car looks like a flower petal...
Besides, if noone decides to host it, I'll have to do it a few weeks, until someone else takes over.
Also, a fully open photoshop editing would be perfect, that way you could match the colors much closer, add effects, put it on a grass background, etc. Suppose the picture was a plane, you would be allowed to put a car in the air and give it wings or something, or you could have a sky blue colored car if you like. Editing wouldn't be essential to win, although B/C would help, but that isn't as complex.

Just a reminder to those Enthusia players, I had an idea for a WRS there, if you want to host or participate in that, please do so!

I don't usually like to bump my topics, but I'm pretty enthusiastic, and think if more people saw this, there might be enough interest to start this up. Really it seems like most of us agree, so we would just need a host. While we wait though, go ahead and post pictures for that flower up there.

Sounds good to me. For instance, did anyone else instantly think "TVR Cerbera Speed Six!" when they saw that picture? I did. There's one paintjob that has almost that exact range of colors, only with a little olive green in it, and it instantly reminded me of that. Also, people wouldn't feel "obliged" to enter, and wouldn't have to sit and think about what car/track/color/editing, etc. The idea instantly comes to mind, so you know exactly what you want to do, then you just have to try to take a picture of what you imagined. I'd enjoy it, I say do it :)

I think this sounds like a very cool idea. With themes that aren't very specific some very radical shots will be entered which would be nice to see. It should definetly be no holds barred with the photo editing. Since no one has volunteered yet I wouldn't mind doing it, I have a lot of free time begging to be used. But since I'm still kind of new here if someone else wants to do it thats fine.

Hey LOON!

I just want to encourage you to host this comp!
I think I won´t have the time to even participate. But I am eager to see what people make out of it and since I am interested in this inspiration comp more than in every other one, I would be glad to see it going for at least a few weeks. So, please get this started! 👍 👍 👍

to all:
I tried to make some quick "rules" for discussion:

1. The winner of the last "Inspiration Competition" chooses the picture for the next competition.

2. There are no restrictions for the choice of motif in a participants picture.

3. There are no restrictions for the use of picture editing software.

4. Other than that the general rules of posting pics on gtplanet.net apply.

Criteria for the voting could be: composition, image quality, idea, creativity, ...

Prost!

well, If no one has any objections I'll start this competion either this saturday or sunday.

bjc-3000, the quick rules you posted above seem pretty good.

Here's some of mine.

1. If you pick the theme for the current week, you're not allowed to enter in it.(like the other comps)
2. The person who picked the theme will pick 10 shots to be on the poll.
3. There will be 1 week to enter the competition followed by 1 week of voting.

And instead of the winner of week 1 picking the theme for week 2. I think should be the winner of week 1 picking week 3's theme and the winner of week 2 picking week 4's theme and so on.

Since I live on the east coast of the U.S. the starting time and ending time will be 8:00 p.m. standard eastern time. To give you a reference of what time it will be where you live I posted this at 2:30 p.m.

Yes, please do host it. Now, since we will need to start two comps before anyone else will get to pick a theme (week one poll goes up while week two opens), I was thinking I could send you the first theme, and you could pick the next. You could use the flower too if you wanted. What I really want is to be able to participate, so make it fair for me so I can.

o.k., I guess I am now officially hosting this comp. It will start Friday at 8:00 my time, unless you think it should start sooner.👍

Sounds good to me. Go ahead and send me your theme idea. And I guess we can get rid of rule one since every week the theme is pretty much open.👍

Actually, our times are the same I think. In my time it says that post of yours was at 10:21, and this is at ~4:26-4:27. anyway, I'm glad you decided to host it, although I'm still waiting for really just more feedback on the Enthusia WRS idea. Though, LOON, you don't have to host that. ;

yeah, are times are the same. I live in maine.

I would host that but I don't have enthusia so I know nothing about it.
