or if you'r not afraid of overclocking check out a Gigabyte GA-8IRXP
and a Pentium 4 1.6A (512K Northwood). that with 512MB CAS 2 DDR PC2700 will run ya about $370. the P4 1.6A is an awesome overclocker (think celeron 300A) it can usually hit 2.4GHz with a nice fan n heatsink. nice bang for the buck, and will outperform all but the newest of pentium 4's. unless you need to run anything REAL FPU intensive, then in that case go with an AMD. check out www.pricewatch.com for good prices on shtuff

MistaX, how well do the amdxp cpu's run win 98? or does it matter? I'll prolly be running dual boot with win98 and xp, so i was wonder how that will fare.

Geez it been a while since i have had a amd, not since the k6's

AMD Athlon XP has NOTHING to do with Windows XP, its just a name that AMD came up with around the same time Win XP was released. It runs fine with any Windows OS's.
