I have an old true-touch mouse Model: AM-900U optical mouse, Has had a bit of freezing/disappearing of the cursor. Recently, Did a quick restore of a previous date to see if it was something but I think it's just too old. Had it since At lease 2001, Maybe Late 90's.

XP SP3, P4, 3GB Ram, 512GB HD.

So your mouse of 13'ish years isn't working right.

I'd take that investment as well spent and go buy a new mouse.

Do you have another mouse to try?

I am using my laptop wireless mouse which is doing the job, not ideal but it's working.

I did try the old mouse on laptop still did the same. So it's the mouse.

Edit: Got a new mouse, Not thrilled that it's a wireless one but it will do the job I guess. A lot more sensitive than the old one. Need to get used to it.

Just a thought but you could open up your old mouse and give it a clean. Lint and dust can build up (especially given its age) on the lazer and cause it to become unresponsive and glitchy.

I have done that but still didn't work.

Now since I have a new mouse that has to run on batteries, Is rechargeable batteries better or worse for the mouse?

Better for your wallet to go with rechargeable batteries. I recommend Eneloops, which hold charge well and last quite a while. My use is pretty heavy duty as well, as I use Eneloops for my Canon Speedlite which is a bit more demanding than a mouse :P
