OK, so I recently got a new PC and am having some trouble setting it up.

The PC came ready built but doesn't seem to be working properly. I have connected everything up as shown in the user manual however I don't seem to be getting a picture on my monitor. It's connected using an HDMI cable but when I turn my monitor on, it goes to sleep mode within 2 seconds like it isn't recognizing any connection to it. I have connected the monitor up to my laptop with the same HDMI cable and that works fine which indicates to me a problem with the PC itself. I have got a disk for the GPU drivers but as I don't have a screen on which to follow instructions, I can't set that up.

Any ideas anyone?

You should try to connect your pc with different cable to monitor. Dvi or vga.
And are you sure you put hdmi to gpu and not to motherboard?

The default connection may not be HDMI like NMK said. I would try other video connections first and then change it to HDMI after.

I would think that the default output is through the motherboard and not the GPU. Connect through the motherboard, install the drivers for the GPU, and try again.

When you install a video card into the PCI-E port the motherboard disables the onboard video.

I did try connecting with a VGI at first but that didn't work so I used an HDMI.

I have a limited knowledge of hardware so I'll watch a few YouTube videos and get back to you on that.

Does the PC beep a number of times when you start it up?
.
Nope, The lights come on and the fans start up but I just can't get a picture.

Though this is true, the drivers may not be installed for the graphics card.

I would suggest this too. I recently had to replace a graphics card, and the new card drivers were not installed, so I got no picture either. I defaulted it back to on board graphics so I could install the drivers, and then after a restart, and reconnecting the cable to the graphics card, it all worked. Give that a try.

Depending on the PC you'll likely have an HDMI out from the motherboard and then a separate set of video outs from the GPU. Make sure you're not in the HDMI out from the motherboard as it won't be active. Pick the HDMI out from the graphics card.

Yeah that seemed to be the issue. The 2 ports were so close together that I didn't see they were for 2 seperate components. Thanks everyone for your help!
