I recently started to loathe my LG Viewty for it's completely frustating touchscreen and thought I better upgrade to a better phone.
I took a gamble on the Desire - I was going to buy a Hero but then noticed a Desire has been released to update it. So I went out the same day reading no reviews, tried one, loved it, and bought it.
It's possibly the best thing I've ever bought.
Google Android runs very fast on it. It looks very clean and very easy to use. The keypad for texting is just as good as the iPhone's, and I just overal like the look and feel of it more compared. Especially customising the 7 home pages.
The internet is so fast on it from WiFi, almost as quick as my computer. The screen's ultra crisp (400x800 display) and the colours and clarity is amazing. The contrast ratio looks far superior to my LCD TV, which is pretty shameful.
The overall quality of the phone feels very good, better than I expected. No cheap plastics here - rubber back with a metallicy paint finish to the frame around the front. All the buttons feel really solid, but I find the touch pad on the middle button a little fiddly and pointless - it's just a lot easier to select and drag things using the touch screen instead because it's so good.
There are lots of apps for it. Not as many as the Apple store, but still a fair few, like Microsoft Word/Excel readers, PDF readers, google mail, maps, a whole bunch of games, system aps which kill applications and help save battery, and so much more. Oh, and Google Goggles, which lets you take a picture of an object and it tries to recognise it.
It's a little bit of a gimmick but it does recognise some things, like my Xbox controller and my EXACT keyboard.
The thing that has most impressed me so far is the Google Maps location finder. It knows where you are and follows you around. I was wondering why it was only updating my location per minute or two at first, but then found out I had GPS off the whole time. Maybe this will speed it up? And Buzz is intergrated into this too - it will show updates that other people have put on Buzz in your local area. Too nosey I am.
My only little gripes with it so far is the option to turn off vibration when you type each letter in a text doesn't seem to work. And sometimes when I've read a new message the notification on my small messages icon doesn't disappear (as you see in the bottom photo). But other than that it's awesome.
Plus, battery life is average. I can understand why people complain about it because I used all these features for around 8-9 hours in a day my battery almost ran out. But usually people won't be doing this so it should last 2 days or so.
Overall, I'd give it a 9.5. I've not had a good chance to use the camera yet but it seems reasonably good quality and very fast to take the photo. Just the flash isn't too good (only an LED rather than Xeon).

Weirdest thing of all though, and this is TOTALLY random, is it seems to have auto synced my T-Mobile texts profile with someone on my Facebook,so it looked like they were coming from him. :S Which confused the hell out of me because there's no way he has my new number.
