Here it is, boys...

The new Outback (probably not the colour I'd have chosen for it for initial images).

...and the Legacy 3.0R

Also of note, "...is also equipped with the newly developed SPORTSHIFT E-5AT, a 5-speed automatic transmission that incorporates a manual mode"

If I could get a 6 speed manual version of the 3.0R, I do believe the ol' big blue Super Sube might in a bit of bother...

sweet, I love the new styling..my dad actually owned 1st and 2nd gen Outbacks and he really liked them...then he got a WRX :). I wish they sold the Legacy with the 2.5L Turbo like they have in japan. (at least I think it's a 2.5L...I know it's a turbo with 280hp or so)

They put the 2.5L turbo in the Forester 2.5XT now - it does 0-60 almost as quickly as the WRX!

Ooops - forgot the back of the Outback.

I'm a fan of simple 5 spoke alloys, but I think the ol' Legacy's about due for a change in that regard....

They've just launched here - the press release was quite comical. The president of Subaru Australia said they were expecting a lot of sales to older Australians because of the increased towing capacity....yup....tow your arse to 400 metres in less than 15 seconds!

I like the looks of this car.. Something is going on over there in japan, I mean suby, mazda and honda (saw the beautiful accord coupe concept or something on sth autosaloon this spring) is going for interesting and sporty designs with a slight massive feeling right now, nissan though feels more interesting than sporty..

Heh - 400 metres in under 15 seconds is pretty damn good for an SUV. By the way, it's nice to see you got some inspiration there.

*slobbers*

Very, very nice! It might be a bit too utilitarian (especially for a Subaru, but, whatever)... kinda like the Acura TSX, which looks absolutely gorgeous, yet disappears quickly in the crowd. But still, those are nothing short of sweet... and the new interiors are pretty nice too!

Though, I still yearn for a WRX STi with the wing sawed off. :D

Why's it ugly? Because Automobile said so? Or was it Motor Trend? Once again, everybody's used to the simplest most non-offensive designs from Subaru, so as soon as they change the tailgate colour everyone thinks they know everything about its looks. It's a complete joke.

I love it. Beautiful...

BTw, i kinda like the Forrester, even though it's a little short...

No, the Forester is ugly because it looks like they took an outback and kicked it in the face, then turned it around and kicked it in the ass. Now it's all flat on the front and back and it's ugly and the whole point was to make it look like a "truck" when it's really a car. Just because you think it looks good doesn't mean I can't think it looks ugly, that just your opinion.

Heh - took a while.

Geez - if you'd called the old model Forester ugly, fair enough, but the new one's okay. A much cleaner, more professional design.

Keep in mind the Forester was styled around the same time as the Outback. And it is not meant to look like a truck or an SUV. I bet you couldn't even tell the difference between an old one and a new one if seen on the street even after all your talk.

I don't think it looks good. Just like every single member of the non-easily-influenced motoring public I think it's boring and competent like most Subaru products.

Fortunately this is another situation in which the naysayer is wrong - following two straight years of minor declines in sales, the newly re-designed '03 and '04 Foresters had a large sales jump, just like the new 7-series had over the outgoing one and the Z4 had over the Z3.

I prefer the new look, but I still don't like it. I don't see how you can say it's not meant to look like a truck or suv...just compare the styling of it to every other SUV out there...it looks pretty similar, and I really don't understand why you're arguing with me...you already said you don't like it...I don't like it...what's your argument?

Similar, fine - it came out before a lot of the SUVs 'out there.'

I can see why you say it looks like a truck in the first picture, but you have their motives all wrong. That rugged, stripped-down look with the truckish wheels are all on that version just because they're cheapest. The vehicle is actually extremely carlike.

You think it's ugly; I think it's boring. Different viewpoint.

(PS - BD02 CFJ has kickass wheels - wish we got those in the states!)

I love the new legacy, but i'm wondering. When are they going to release the B4 over here (thats if they ever do0 anybody know?

Not knowing where you're located makes it difficult, Thlam!

Assuming you're in the US, I think the talk was that they're going worldwide with the B4 launch this time and that the US would get it possibly sometime in the second or third quarter of '04, depending on demand.

Supposedly (stress that) we are supposed to get the current Legacy for 2004 which, at some point, will add a very limited twin-turbo sedan version and possibly a wagon - it is thought that this vehicle could put out 245-horsepower and is already certified for emissions.

The new Legacy supposedly (again, stress that) comes as an '05 model; no details about trim levels for it yet.
