New to drifting

I am sure there have been alot of new guys that have asked what the best car is and how to set it up. Well I am only going to ask half of that. I am gonna pick a car. I just need to know what to look for before I buy it as far as drive train and weight. I am thinking i am going to go with a japanese car orr possibly a mustang just for kick. But I am looking for some honest advice.

I will say for the time being (till about the end of the month) I will be using a controller. I am not looking to run with the pros quite yet. I am just getting my feet wet and trying drift racing out. I love all aspects of the game and want to better myself in all areas. But the one i find most interesting and different is the drifting. So if you would please... Give me some car ideas, reccomendations on setting it up, and any other tips you feel i need. I appreciate all advice, suggestions, and comments.

Start stock. The usual Japanese cars ( S-chassis, Honda S2000, Mazda Rx7s) are a good start but try like BMW's, New mustangs, Camaros and practice.

Well I think I went a little overboard lol. I ended up with an 02 silvia and a mustang. I also bought a ferrari 458 italia as a car to mess around with a tune

Thank you. I am having an issue with my cars powering out in the middle of a tight drift. Like my silvia... When it is about to shift from 2nd to 1st it just about completely loses power

You shouldn't have to shift down to first, even in a tight drift. Try powering through 2nd with constant, smooth acceleration instead of using the rev-limiter to break traction. Your ears will thank me after a few days =P

Go to youtube or any other site like that, watch some real life drifting and try to do the same things that they do.
Good things to search for are D1 Grand Prix (Video Option series) and Drift dengoku.

Well today was quite interesting. I failed with the wheel. But I will watch some D1. My grandpa is fascinated with drifting haha. But I think practice is one thing that is a must

Actually don't know if it's still up, go on YouTube search "Drift Bible" and see if the video comes up. It did before, but it's an instructional video by Keiichi Tsuchiya. Watch it and you'll learn.

Hey it's still up it's In parts but if you are a beginner, start with Drifting with E brake for quick start. If you want to start with basics, there should be one with practice drills like 180 degree turns then doing donuts etc.

i dont mean to hijack this thread, however i have a question for you experienced drifters.im still new and practicing with a sileighty fully tuned with comfort hard tires. im using an older wheel, driving force pro and practicing on autumn ring mini.

im losing grip when i enter the corners on my front tires. as a result im either 1) losing too much speed and end up spinning 90 degrees to a halt or 2) i dont turn and just slide off the track. other times i start the drift and everything is going fine with counter steering, then suddenly i lose grip and it happens.

ive tried changing the front tires to comfort medium and soft, and i still have the same problem. i dont have this problem in all turns, just the 2nd turn (after hairpin) and one other. naturally i think im just not going in at the correct speed, however after trying every thing i can think of as far as speed, line, and drfit style, and yet im still having the same problem, and always the same 2 corners.

im hoping someone can help me with this.
