Used only have an xbox gathering dust,.. but bought a PS3 with GT5 about 6 months ago,.. got hooked (now level 39 aspec and 40 bspec),.. then got the playseat with G27

I got it cos I was so uncompetitive with time trials, and all the top ranking use wheel with manual gears

Hated the wheel at first,.. as I tried to continue where I left off in a pretty high powered car,.. went back to basics (easy track with a megane or a mini and all the assists on) and now love it,.. a totally different experience,.. have yet to build up to using the gears

Need to learn about set ups,.. how to drift,.. need to up it a level to get competitive with my mates,.. it's not fun losing !

Welcome!

The fastest times on the Time Trials are all done with the paddles on the wheel. For GT specific advice, use the search button in GT5 section. There are literally dozens of starter guides that will help you.

Thanks,.. I've been practicing without improving,.. so got to make the right changes and practice, practice, practice. I'm slowly trying to ditch the assists,.. and the gears will be the last to go,.. going from arcade style to true simulator is the target

The playseat/G27 has proved very popular with all my friends,.. even the non-gamers have surprised me with the amount of laps and times they do,.. and since I've got it I've a few regular vistors who take it over when they come !!
Was a bit worried if I'd like it before buying it,.. without getting a 'test drive',.. when I could have bought a banger and raced it at my local track for the same money,.. got a nice few miles (kms rather) on it now though

Welcome to :gtpflag:

Glad you're enjoying the G27. Its a really good wheel.

If you want to go from basic, start with the License tests, and the Special Events.
The AMG academy can be though at first, but if you can master the SLS in rain, you can do almost anything in GT5.

In general race, try using the not so good tires, like sports hard/sports soft.
Drive without driving line, TC OFF, Skid Recovery Force OFF, ASM OFF, and in the start ABS set to 1.

You will quickly learn when to brake, and how the different cars behave under braking. If you want a bit more challenge, set ABS to OFF.

One more tip, my personal preference, try using the stick shifter and not the paddles. In my opinion it makes the game more enjoyable, at least when drifting and in the bit longer races.
