New to SimRacing

Hello, I'm new here and I have no experience with simulators. I'm trying to understand if Sim Racing is something for amateurs only, or can become a professional activity. I heard that there are online competitions, even with important prizes.. how does it start everything?

Sim racing is no different than any other e-sports video game (other than being more expensive). You play the game a lot and if you get good enough, one day you might be able to make a living from playing the game.
