New to steering wheels

I'm new to steering wheels and new to this forum, so hello.

I've bought a G25 to play GTP, as I said it's my first wheel. I'm going to buy a wheel stand pro to house it but for now I'm using a table!

I was wondering if you can give me any tips on the transition from pad to wheel?

I've found that with the wheel, on straights cars can 'wiggle' right and left a lot. Is this common? Maybe it is just me being new to wheels!

Any tips you can give woud be great, thanks.

First, Welcome to GTPlanet.

The transition from pad to wheel is best described in this thread (Sixaxis to G25 - 4 Months) from Synwraith.

The cars that wiggle down the straights seem to have settings that make them wiggle.
The Subaru's and Evo's really wiggle quite a bit. Maybe it's some preset toe setting that can't be tuned out.
Some say it's the dead spot in the wheels but I would call it a GT5P glitch, it's not the wheel.

Besides reading Synwraith's insight's, just go out there and practice is all I can give you.

Thanks for the welcome! I've been lurking long enough so I thought I should join! Also thanks for the link to that thread, it was a very interesting read.

In regards to the unwanted car movement, I was thinking it could be due to the sensitivity of the wheel. When it vibrates (which can happen on a straight) I wonder if that effects the steering wheel due to how sensitive it is. Hence the slight movements that can sometimes (because I'm still learning!) turn into a zig zag then wall/track/wall/track/grass/wall/crash :P

I'll try tuning them out though as you mentioned, I hadn't thought of that.

See you about!

Dan

Hi, welcome to the site, I recently got myself a G25 also, lovin it to bits, it's the mutts nuts. I'm not that new to wheels though as I had a Driving Force Pro, however I hadn't much opportunity to use it till now (good riddance to the ex). i would just echo the comment above & reccomend practice as much as possible. Best of luck.
