Hi guys, welcome to week 10 of the driving skill competition. This is the new weekly competition where driving skill is everything. Each week a stock car and track is chosen the car CANNOT be tuned or modified in anyway as to give an advantage over others.

This week is SX4 WRC at Eiger G and tyre choice is DIRT TYRES. All aids are to be turned off except ABS on 1. Transmission and grip choice (low/real) is down to you.

The car must be accessed via ARCADE MODE!

Brake balance can only be adjusted if you are driving with ABS off, if you are using ABS on 1 you must keep the default brake balance.

This is an offline competition and you can do anytime, just choose the car through arcade mode then select the track. Everybody Is free to enter.

Please send in your best lap time stating whether you used ds3 or wheel (lap must not have gone red).

Its time to show your skill and race! Good luck everyone thanks for the support! Any questions just PM me and i'll get back to you ASAP! Enjoy!

When sending your times in please could you use the following format:

Driver: GTP name/PSN name
Time:
Transmission: Auto/Manual (if manual state whether clutch used)
Controller: DS3/wheel
ABS:
Brake Balance: Front/Rear (only applicable if ABS is off)

Also please state your updated time in a new post, do not simply edit a previous one.

The Week 10 leaderboard will be up later in the week!

I will also consider allowing previous competitors the ability to add their own times to the leaderboard to save time.

After the huge success of the previous weeks it would be great to get as many people racing this week. So get out on that track and have fun!

Also if this isn't enough of a challenge to satisfy your gt5 needs head over to the sister competition of the weekly driving skill competition (WDSC) which is called fortnightly driving skill competition and can be found under the 'spot races and time trials' section of the forums. The FDSC runs alongside the WDSC.

I'm just going to run it on dirt tires, for now.

2:05.423

I'd like to get under 2:00, but I suspect the best will destroy that mark.

*note: above assumes Dirt Tires.

Rally is not my favorite driving pleasure in GT5. But I´ll put up a time later this week :)

Yeah, this is definitely another type of challenge. Rally driving is very different.

So, after almost another hour, I could barely get within a second of my time from yesterday. This surface can be very frustrating.

I had a little go at this event just now. About 15 laps, 11 of them red :grumpy:. I have trouble in the long downhill section. My best time for now:

Driver: no1pal
time: 2:09.903
Transmission: MT
Controller: DS3
ABS: 1

Yeah, that downhill section is a killer. Looking ahead is really key with this event. If you haven't already, turn off the driving line.

There's still a lot of time left here; my best lap was sloppy as hell. This surface is very frustrating. It seems like the grip is totally random sometimes. Like, in a corner, I can sometimes hold my line at betwen 55-60 km/h, and other times I'll loss traction on the same corner at under 50. I'm sure it's due to a slight change of line, but damnitsfuc-kingfrustrating.

I've been trying out no ABS recently. Tricky on the dirt, I found I needed to keep dancing on the pedals to try and prevent lock ups. Not quite the finesse of Walter Rohrl in a Quatro but a whole new level of involvement nonetheless.

I'm still keen on this! Sure it's not nearly as popular as it was, but if those of us who still come around keep participating, it won't be completely dead. You guys can keep complaining (I know I probably will), but put up some times while you're at it.

Scoreboard updates would probably help a lot, too.

I finally managed to run this today. Would like another run but I think I've done about what I can do on my first session, it took forever just to get accustomed to the car and track. I've been ahead by a little, but can never maintain it.

I agree on this. I like the WDSC and I'll submit times even though there haven't been many partisipants lately.

Anyways, I have improved my time slightly:

Driver: no1pal
Time : 2:08.373
Transmission: MT
Controller: DFGT
ABS: 1

It helped a little to hook up my wheel :dopey:

GT Academy plus the new location is killing it. I love the WDSC but I just don't have much time. I'll get some times in later this week.

So, is this done for good now, or are people just not rally fans?

I wanted to run the rally stage more, it's just tough for me to find time to do it properly right now.

I love the competition overall, wish it had more participants across all skill levels -- it's not like I can challenge the hot shoes. But even still, it's fun to see where you do stand in equal equipment and learn how to be better(and at least try not to be last). No sign of a new event(no fortnightly either) is unfortunate.

Don't know if people don't like its casual format and it really is better suited to the drivers least likely to see it in its new home or just what went wrong.

EDIT: This single event I assume ended on Saturday so I wasn't planning submitting a late time.

It seemed to me that the casual format is what attracted people, certainly for me, so yes this sub forum has killed it.

I think it would be worth trying to get it up and running again after GTA and exams have finished: I think there were a few people at school/uni. Assuming the organisers are willing.

If the mods insist on keeping it here, maybe a reminder thread in the main forum might help.

You might as well do a time if you get the chance. Don't think it will matter.

Great work Timminz on updating the times 👍

We need to put the threads in the normal GT5 bit, if a mod moves them (Which mod moved them, I'm gonna PM him?) then at least people will still see it for a bit plus it will have "moved" on it and a link.

If they (Mods) don't listen and will only have it in here, we will all take turns to post the new one every week in there so one person doesn't get banned and hopefully it won't take long for people to get used to where we are!

They belong in here. I moved them - and when they were moved back I locked every single one of them.

If you don't listen and post threads outside the appropriate forum, the thread will be deleted and the member posting it banned for two weeks. A second offence will be a permanent ban.

We have a hard enough time cleaning up after people who are accidentally or reactively poorly-behaved. We do not take kindly to those who do so deliberately. It doesn't matter how important you think something is, it gets posted in the forum in which it belongs.

The sensible thing to do is not to act like the staff are at fault and defy us, but to come up with a reasoned and rational argment as to why it belongs in a different forum. You're wholly welcome to do this. "It'll get more views" is not sufficient, or every thread would be in the GT5 Marketplace forum.

Dear Famine (which is ironically both your username, and what you have caused to this series),

The letter of the law is great and all, but you single-handedly ruined the best part of this forum, in my (and other's) opinion.

Warmest regards,

Timm

Not finding the reason or rationality in that one. Lots of acting like we're at fault though. Odd, given this post, right above yours:

Your opinion on what you think is the best part of this site is noted. The fact you chose to ignore everything I said rather than approach me with a reasonable, rational argument as to why this series doesn't belong in this forum but a different one as I invited you to, is also noted.

If you're done trying to pick fights and are actually serious in your intent to "save" this series from having to be in the same place all the other ones are for some reason, the offer remains open (and will in perpetuity - the staff are always open to reason). If you're not, keep flailing away and see where that gets you.

I had wondered if this was still going.

Had wondered this too.

Only reason I have not posted a time is because I hate Rally with a passion, was looking forward to the new event. I agree its not in the best place but lets make the best of what we have and continue with it...

Part of the problem I think was that the threads disappeared without warning and previous contributors just didn't know where they had gone.

This is/was a casual competition, with minimal rules that was gaining interest and momentum, peaking at over thirty entries before it was moved, then there was a big drop off. It relied on passing traffic for participants which really was only possible in the main thread.

There have been other factors in the demise, mainly the main two organisers' absence, I think due to exams, meaning leader boards were not updated, and the GTA.

To me, this comp is about learning and driving combos I wouldn't normally drive. I'm not a serious competitor by a long way and I was hoping more people at my level would take part. In the main thread I believe interest would grow from all levels. If it got up and running again here there could be a reasonable number of regulars, BUT it would need advertisement in the main thread, assuming support from regular organisers.

If you want this comp to get back to life, perhaps it's best not antagonising the admins and come up with some positive ideas. 👍

For reference, I always leave a 24hr redirect so threads remain in their original forum and redirect users to the appropriate forum. This gives active participants 24hr notice of a thread move.

This case was no different. However, when they were moved back I returned them here and locked them all to prevent them being moved again. The guy running the series at the time and I had a PM exchange during which he apologised for moving them because he just didn't realise they had been moved in the first place - he thought he'd put them here by mistake - and I unlocked all of the active threads and left the expired ones locked. He seemed satisfied with this conclusion.

Always a killer. If you have a schedule going, come to an agreement between whoever the main organisers are and some trusted additional members to post new threads each week if the organisers cannot.

Have no fear GTPlrs, one way or another this competition will return. Just as soon as the Academy is done.
