Here is my first race report, so I hope you enjoy! I certainly enjoyed creating it (As well as my new M5). It was worth 96 points, just to say. I hope that my story inspires all of you to realize what you have been missing and you will go and place an order for a M5.
Here goes:
Earlier this day, the brand new blue BMW M5 that I ordered had come in. I picked it up, and I checked it out while doing the Schwartzland Liga B. But, I needed to break it in, so in order to do that, I entered it into the New York 200 miles, since I bought it mainly for endurance races. I put some of my favorite CDs in the center console, stuck on some hard sports tires, put on an aftermarket computer chip and set out racing. My opponents were relatively easy, making this race an even better way for me to break in my BMW. My opponents were a Ford Mustang SVT Cobra, a Callaway C12, a Proto Motors Spirra, another BMW M5, and a TVR T350C. I easily wasted everyone, and I was in first after lap one. But, I couldn’t shake that Spirra. No matter what I did, that Spirra was always right on my tail. The only weakness of the Spirra is that it powers into the second hairpin, hitting the wall every time. So, I ease into the turn, hoping to use him hitting the wall to gain time. As my tires wore off, he got closer and closer, by lap 17, he finally passed me as I took a turn pretty botched. I couldn’t catch up, and since my tires were in the orange, I changed tires before he had the chance to make his lead grow. I headed into the pit area. I got four fresh tires and a full tank of gas, and while I waited for the pit crew to do their job, I popped Weird Al’s Straight Outta Lynwood into the CD player. I knew that this was going to be a long race, and I am going to fight that Spirra until the end.
I exited the pit area. I was now in second. I was so far ahead of the rest when I went in, that by the time I got out, I was still somewhat well ahead of them, but that Spirra had now gotten a huge lead during my pitstop. During the last lap though, the Spirra was fishtailing a little bit through the turns, so I knew that combined with him hitting the wall every lap during the second turn would make it somewhat easy to catch up. Plus, since he was fishtailing, I knew that he was only about a lap or two from having to pit, so I knew that when he pit, if I hustle, I can pass him.
I caught up a little bit, but I mainly was focused on keeping the other four cars away. After two laps, the Spirra pitted, and although I wasn’t able to pass him, by the time he got out, only three seconds separated us. Within the next lap, I was right on his ass. Instead of doing anything drastic, I instead waited again for turn number two, and passed him when he hit the wall. From there, my lead just grew and grew, as at the peak, I was sex seconds ahead of him. But, as my tires started to wear, he caught up, and by lap 30, he was right on my ass again. So, I pitted as my tires were in the red. I swapped out Weird Al for just a mix CD I burnt, and I headed back out to the track. I still had some catching up to do, but thanks to my lead, he wasn’t as far ahead as he was the last time I pitted.
I got out, and hit the ground running. The Spirra stayed out longer than expected, but he finally pitted, and this time, I was right on him as he got out. I went right past him, and kept charging ahead. I then lapped a car for the first time. On the little circle, I went past the last place Ford SVT Cobra R. I continued to charge ahead, and lapped the Callaway C6. By then, though, I was 8 seconds ahead of the Spirra and had lapped two guys by the time I was back in the pits. Got the usual, four fresh tires and a full tank of fuel. Upon this, I must note that the M5 is pretty fuel efficient. Between pit stops, I never used up more than half my tank.
Anyways, I got off, and it seems that these Tires had teething problems. Some guy in my pit crew must not have kept them as warn as the rest of the tires. These seemed to have less grip then normal, so I had to adjust my driving accordingly. After they warned up though, they were ok. This time though, I continued to fall behind the Spirra. He kept charging ahead, and it took twelve laps before he finally pitted. This time though. I managed to pass him in the pits, as well as the Mustang SVT, that pitted at the same time. The CD ran out, but as it was lat in the race, I just sat back and listened to the soundtrack. I really needed to focus, and not screw up and lose the race, and prove this to be a waste of my time.
I headed into the pits again, for my final pit stop. This time though, I was 18 seconds ahead of the Spirra, so when I got out, he was only six seconds ahead. I gunned it and powered through these final laps, closing in on the Spirra. I continued through, lapping the SVT Cobra, Callaway C6, and TVR. The Spirra though would not go down without a fight. By the time I caught up, we were jocking positions at nearly every turn. I finally got ahead, on the second to last lap, but he passed me on the final turn, and I entered the final lap with him ahead of me. During the first turn though, II managed to squeeze past him. He wanted to have a chance to keep up with me, so he didn’t pit, and would finish the race on nearly bald tires, while mine were still in the green. This would come back to bite him in the ass.
We continued to jocky positions, and throughout the little turns area, We were constantly switching, and he came out in front, though I was right up on his ass. Well, we entered the turn style, and I was trying to squeeze past him. He powered into the turn in hopes to lost me, and in the middle of the turnstyle, he spun out, on the final lap. So, I came out of the turnstile ahead, and I knew that the race was mine, so I slowed up slightly as I powered down the final straightaway, to make sure that I don’t screw up at the lat minute. I eased past the finish line, and won the race.
Upon this dramatic ending to an hour and a half of my day, I now say that I recommend the BMW M5 to anyone. It is a awesome car, and I just love everything about it. It is a wonderful car. If you have the money, go and order one right now. It is great to drive, fast, great soundtrack, and it will make getting through the game that much enjoyable. At the end of the day, the BMW M5 I have picked up this morning already had 260 miles on it, from beating the Schwartzland Liga B and the Seattle circuit, and it still has the M trophy and El Captain in its future tomorrow. I love this car.
