Newb problem, cant load game

Hey all, I just bought my PS2 and got Gran Turismo w/ it. I bought a 16 MB memory chip and played in simulation mode for a while. first i set the controls & everything else how i wanted it in options at the first menu of the game. Then I saved. Then I played in simulation mode for a while and saved. Now when I come into the game I go down to load game and it doesn't give me a choice of files to load. It just loads, and it loads my settings the way i had them but it doesn't load my game progress. So I guessed that i had to go into simulation and then load it from there. well see where I can save my game from there but nowhere do I see how to load a game inside simulation. I've also gone to the option where you can manage what's on your memory card and rename things. Well the game I was playing is still on there, it says what car I was driving and how much money I had and all but I cannot figure out how to load it!!! Can someone help me. I couldn't find any help in the manual either. I know it has to be ridiculously obvious and I'll be embarrassed when I find out how simple it is but I don't know what to do!

Is it possible that you saved the replay of your race instead of a game save?
This is what happened to lots of people when they first started. To do a game
save go the menu and you should click on save game then you will get a screen
with a graphic of a mem card. save and hit OK. I highly recomend having a back up
mem card. That can prevent a lot of grief later. You can also save at the opening
screen where you have the option of arcade and simulation load and save and
replay theater. You might check the replay theater to see if your last race was saved
there vs a game save. This will let you know that you saved at the wrong spot.
Game companys should make their save screens simple and
mistake proof to give the players confidence that they haven't lost all their work.
Other things can cause problems also, but this is the most common. Save often and
think about what you are doing and you should be OK. My brother wiped out my whole
game when I was done with all the license tests and the whole first level. He was trying
to buy one of my cars and he saved his game over mine. It is best to use Sony
mem cards. Is your card OEM?

Yes, that is exactly what happened, I was saving the replay and i thought I was saving progress. Lucky for me I didn't have a whole lot of progress so It wasn't too tough to get back where i was. Thx for the help
