Hello all - nice place ya got here. I don't get out of the House much - should do it more often, but with so little time for racing I spend most of my time out on the track. Been pokin' around a bit, but don't see many familiar nicks. Hope that'll change :) Hey, was that gramps I saw lurking in the bar?

In case some of y'all are like me and don't get out and about much, I thought I'd post my times, settings and runthru of my run at Race 9 in the 9 Boards Challenge -- btw, at the House we routinely post all the relevant info about runs we make in the friendly races we have, discuss lines in great detail, and generally try to help one another. There's lots of give and take - and that helps to establish a atmoshpere of trust.

In practice, my fast laps on the T2 tires were 1:32.7s. If anyone is interested I can post a walkthru of a single fast lap with brake points, top speeds, low speeds in corners, and general driving techniques used.

The runthru

When I first started working on this, I thought it must have been created by a sadist But as I would learn in the days that followed - this car on this track is a great idea And then the idea of having to build to a single run was icing on the cake. Whoever came up with this, would ya please step forward and claim your just deserts - if ya dare
Well, here's how the 15 laps went.

I have kept my car at 811 hp, the max broken in power. I qualified first in one lap and did a few more just for grins.

Start lap - the FTO and ZZII fly past me on the right going off the line. Man, those guys get a fast start. But I gain so I was just behind the FTO following the ZZII. No clue when to brake, I give the FTO a healthy hit as we brake for the turn....no harm, he goes a bit wide but I'm slowed and have to pull back in behind him exiting the right. (sector 1 - 20.520) I follow the FTO and ZZII through the chicane and at the right sweeper I grab my usual inside line on the rumble, the FTO going out wide. Half way through, the FTO drops in on me, smashing me into the wall. But I hold alright though the FTO gets in front. Going into the left, the AI have the advantage in cornering, the lead cars gain some and the Impreza pulls the line inside of me and passes. I'm now in 4th place. I gain on the straight and follow through the fast chicane close behind (1:00.841 sector 2) The right/right and twisty turns that follow went smooth and as I approach the hairpin the Impreza is a few car lengths in front of me. Down the straight I get a good draft and sling past the Impreza. Catch the FTO's draft next but as I sling past on the left I nip the wall and lose 5 mph but still pass easily. Finish the first lap (1:43.304) in 2nd with the ZZII visible way down the straight.

In lap 2, I close the gap down to 10 car lengths in the 1st turn and chicane. Gain some more ground down to 5 car lengths at the fast chicane. The ZZII more or less maintains that lead to the hairpin. I catch him on the straight, slinging past on the right at the kink in the straight. Finish the 1st lap 0.6 sec ahead of the ZZII.

Laps 3-7, the track is mine, I could now put into practice what I had practiced.

Lap 8 - I catch up with the Impreza just past the kink in the straight and get a good sling.

Lap 9 I'm on my own and cruising....sector 2 of 51.660 could have been my best lap, but I'm wide coming out of the right/right and into the twisty turns, the line is botched and I pick up a few scraps as I try to compensate. The lap time of 1:34.333 should have been a second faster.

Lap 10 cruising. Lap 11, the ZZII has pitted and comes out up ahead of me down the straight. I don't catch him til the end of the straight of lap 12. As we approach the hairpin I pull along side on his right rather than lose speed. I have to brake first and he scoots ahead. I hold the inside line well and get back on his tail. On his bumper I follow him thru the chicane, hold my own thru the sweeeper. I pass him on the straight before the fast chicane. Great I'm thinking......But as I brake hard for the right/right, the ZZII smashes my rear, sending me into the far wall hard. I don't catch him til the start line - my slow lap 1:36.023).

As lap 13 begins I can see the Impreza way down the track. I finally catch up with him at the fast chicane. But deja vu, as I brake hard for the right/right I get rear ended again - but not so bad this time and I regain the lead easily.

Back on my own for the final 2 laps, but now the tires give more and the adrenaline is pumpin' - I push too hard through many turns so that I can't maintain the tightest inside line. Not as good as they could have been.

And then there was the waiting.......

Hey welcome to GTPlanet!!! :D

Just a tip... you might wanna post all that info in the Challenges forum... more people will see it that way

Relevant info. How about, the car and track for those that aren't "in the know";) I'm curious as to how I would do against other people's times.:)

Edit: What race?

Thanks for the welcome Magic069 :) Copied the post to the Challenge forum. Thanks.

Real good question Tom - edited the post to include the relevant info. My bad ;) Have some fun. The gold one is real fast :D

Gimp, thanks for backup :) Might be I've run into you someplace? :P

I thank you kind Sirs:) I went to that board, and there are some impressive times. I'm looking forward to the 787 at Laguna, after running the Vertigo at Seattle, I was pretty embarrased. (still can't stand that car, love the track though:D ) Then I'll test out your settings on the vette. I don't tool around with my car that much, just a few tweaks here and there to get a better feel now and again.

By the way, welcome to the board, hopefully you two will pop in from time to time and tell us what's what.;)
