I am just into drifting....didnt even know what it was in 1:1 scale until about a month ago....by the way uk members - there is full size drifting at Silverstone on Sunday..anyway..i loaded up gt3 on my sister's ps2 and tried first by buying a Corolla AE86...was bloody hard to keep it heading the right way....then I tried a tricked out 200sx - 450hp , sim tyres....all the suspension done, 4 camber on the back etc... was easier , then I tired sport super soft tyres and it just wouldnt break away when you turned and let off into a corner...so what I am asking really is what am I doing wrong..what cars best to learn in? and what track/corner is best suited to new drifters..Thanks

John :)

The AE86 is a good car to learn about, I guess, if you find it is. However, in your case, you just said you found it easier with sim tyres on a 200SX. That's your first lesson right there, sim tyres. They're the best for drifting, because they have no unnatural grip on the road, and perform like real ones would, or as close to as possible.

As for tracks, well... your best bet is to just keep on trying Midway for starters, I guess. I'm not sure, because I kept on hopping tracks during my first few months of it. No matter where, persistance is the key.

I don't see why people say learning on an ae86?? I haven't been drifting all that long but that's the car i first started with. Maybe I don't have it tuned quite right but i find it kicks to much once you start to drift. I just started using an rx7 and even with tires with less traction I find it so much easier. Bit harder to get it to drift but it seems a lot easier to control.

let me just say...Sim tires perform like the worste discount tire sears auto center wal mart brand tire you can buy for 5 bucks a piece....I've never EVER heard of a Rx7 not being able to get traction in 5th gear with only 350hp

I use the AE85 with the sport tires but i didnt install the turbo kit only the N/A mods. The turbo just has lag and you need more instant power to drift. With the Silvia (200SX) i use the Sport tires also, the Sim tires are just too slippery. With something like the Supra with hp numbers above 500 i would use the Medium racing slicks or the Super Soft. But the AE86 might not look good drifting while you practice and are driving but if you look at the replays it looks Initial D worthy!
