Okay so I am a newbie to the PS3 and GT5. In fact I purchased a PS3 just for GT5 about a month ago from Best Buy... got a 160GB bundle with Little Big Planet GOTY and ModNation Racers.

Love GT5... got to Level 20 on both A and B spec about a week or two ago. Then it happened... the PS3 froze up while playing GT5. I think it was in one of the menus after a b-spec race. I waited several minutes with nothing happening so I shut it down. When it restarted it said hard disk corrupt. It would try to fix it, but when it restarted it said hard disk corrupt again in an endless loop. So I looked on Sony's support and it gave instructions for going into safe mode. Nothing worked til got to the reformat option. Did that... and I had my PS3 back but lost all game progress. Very frustrating, but I was back in business.

By tonight I had gotten back to A-spec 16 and B-spec 8... and then it happened again. Froze up again on one of the menus and was unresponsive. Had to eventually shutdown. Now the disk is corrupt again and same loop. It seems like it happened about the time everyone said the new Seasonal 3 races appeared so I am wondering if it could be related to that... or do I have a hardware problem?

Formating has brought back my PS3 again. What should I do? Should I just start GT5 over and hope for best? Is it a problem with GT5 or is my PS3 faulty? Should I return the PS3 for a new one? Will Best Buy exchange it? I didn't get their extended warranty. I'm not sure if it has been 30 days yet. Should I send it in to Sony?

My wife and I got into Little Big Planet so we have played that quite a bit and never noticed a problem in that game. Of course we have lost all our progress there too.

I guess my question boils down to... is the problem with GT5 or do I have a faulty PS3?

Sounds like a PS3 problem to me.

Take it back to best buy, say the game saves after a while keep corrupting and you should be given a new one if under warranty.

If not, you could try replacing the HDD in the PS3.

Plus save your game file to USB stick and then just reload it once you have formatted it , it is advicable to use the USB stick each day or a few times a day for peace of mind and just such an occassion as yours.

I used to get freeze-ups when i first started playing, early December that was. It went away (hasnt happened since) when I re-did the 'copy game files to hard disk' option.

I have had "only" two freezeups with my PS3 since I got it about a month ago... both times while playing GT5. Last night and about two weeks ago. Unfortunately, both resulted in harddrive corruption.

just happened to me, seems a problem with data, never been on a seasonal event or raced online but do log on to get free paint. problem extended beyond gt5 where system crashed while loading dvds. full restore seems to have sorted it but recommend people back up as much data as they can, just in case

My wife bought me a 60 gig fatty, back in the day. I've never had one ounce of trouble with anything. I'd take that crap back.

My game froze up on me last night (and this is the first time it had happened) It was during a loading screen entering a practice session. I hit the ps button and the XMB popped up and then that froze. I left alone in fear of GT5 and ps3 Dying so I just stopped what I was doing and finally after about 1 to 2 minutes the XMB came back to life and then the game finished loading..... Strange
