And yet another CUV may arrive, in an already crowded, competitive market.

FCA Boss Sergio Marchionne said in an interview, “If there is a MiTo [in the future], I don’t think it will be in the [current] shape. The market has shrunk – two-door B-segment hatchbacks is a very shrinking market. It’s got a limited practicality, so we have to be careful”.

The company’s chief, Reid Bigland, admits that there isn’t really much room for the MiTo and the C-segment Giulietta in Alfa Romeo’s range, which he says “is defined by the 4C, Stelvio and Giulia. The Giulietta and MiTo are two very good cars, but they’re not on the same level of Giulia and Stelvio”.

Thoughts?

I think this is a step in the right direction for the Alfa rebirth. A luxurious, compact CUV can generate some serious profits if executed correctly.

They are going to ruin it. I guess it couldn't compete in the saturated hatch market. It's going to turn into another Mazda CX-3 knock off of which there are many out there.

I wonder what all these companies are going to do when people stop wanting crossovers? It probably won't happen for a long time, but the market will eventually change and all these companies will be left with is an entire lineup of hatchbacks that sit slightly higher.

In fairness they've converted entire ranges of hatchbacks-that-sit-slightly-lower, going back to that format should be easy :D

I don't have the numbers, but using my eyes and ears, I'm pretty sure there is still a healthy market for 2 door hatchbacks. My street is full of them, besides the taxis.

Makes sense. If Alfa's serious about a proper US presence, it'd be silly not to explore this sector.
