Recent talks around the city are that bringing back the NHL to winnipeg is not as impossible as once thought!! Sure it sounds strange, "adding a team in Canada, instead on subtracting" But we will have a new arena at the end of 2004 (or somewhere arougn there) will be of size for the League at around 17,500 Capacity which might be able to be tweaked to hold around 18,000. Winnipeg truly is a hockey city and im my views those are the type of cities that deserve teams! But if the leage had that philosophy there might only be a handful of teams in the US. http://www.jetsowner.com/
Is it really all that impossible??

I was at the rallies....bought my tickets...and cried with 17,000 Manitobans in the arena when Don Cherry gave his speech. I agree with your enthusiasm, but have had my heart ripped out before in this town. The Moose are a blessing to us and we take them for granted. Maybe if we get rid of that goofball "Dancing Gabe" they'll come back:D

Dancing Gabe is helarious, i think he actually has a contract with winnipeg enterprises to go to sporting events and dance! What a nut! When was this rally with Don Cherry??

Too bad about the poor location of the arena.

Is poutine a suburb of Winnipeg that I don't know about or do you live at BurgerKing?:D The rally was held by CJOB I believe at the arena. Huge! Great outpour of loyalty. About a year before they left. During the hype and release that they were leaving. The location is kinda weird....total **ap if you wish to bring your car.

Well acording to the city this is the prime location, they want to get life back in the downtown of the city, but parking will be a *****

hey with anyluck winnipeg will be able to steal my pittsburgh penguins since the city wont give them a new arena, but will give a baseball team that hasnt one anything or had a sellout in 10 yrs a new staduim

I wouldn't give the Pengiuns a new arena either, they suck. For the record, the Pirates didn't deserve one either.

Well there sure has been a lot of talk in local papers about this topic. One of our city councielers even wrote a letter a Pittsburgh telling them to keep us in mind if and when they decide to move, the responce back was a thanks but no thanks at the moment.......but recently we rcieved a letter from a "sunbelt" team who was interested in reloaction and was wondering how serious we were. I guess we all have our hopes, even though it would still take a heck of a new collective bargaining agreementfor us to be able to afford one. But we got the new arena, so all we need is a team. Just curious if any of you have heard talk about a possible relocation to Winnipeg, of if this is just more of a local craze.

You might not get the nhl but if the nhl goes on stirke next year the wha wil, be formed and a team will probably be in winnipeg. The wha teams will be in cities that don't have Nhl teams like winnipeg, hamilton and quebec.
