Holy Headlights! Nissan 370Z details appear in Japanese mag
A forum member over at Fresh Alloy has posted scanned pics of the coming Nissan 370Z from a Japanese magazine, and it looks like things are going to get a lot curvier. It appears that the hood-to-fender dip on the current car remains on the new Z. However, at the front of those fenders appears a set of LED headlights unlike anything else on the road. And in one inset photo -- though we have no idea if it represents anything more substantial than fancy -- a redone front features a smaller center scoop flanked by much more aggressive fender vents.

There are some fuzzier interior shots as well, and the three gauges atop the center console look to be placed in much deeper cowls than the current car. According to Alloy moderator Jawad, the car will come with the same 3.7L V6 that debuted in the Infiniti G37 with the same horsepower and be announced in November, which probably means an LA Auto Show unveil is in the works.

It's all WAY too difficult to figure ANYTHING out from those shots. The headlights do look neat...but I wish I knew more. They really chopped things up in that mag.

I think they only got bits and pieces of the car from spy photos. It looks like the car was either under a sheet or dressed in car camo.

Thats one funky headlight line! :sly:

I think it will look neat, the interior looks very GTR'ish and it seems like they are keeping much of the 350z's shape which everyone seems to love...

I'm wondering how much of a "baby GT-R" they will make it. Hopefully it will be fresh, because the shape of the 350Z is getting a little old IMO.

Ooh, I can't wait to see the finished product, I always thought the Fairlady was an awkward shape. Anyhoo.. it couldn't look like much more of a baby GT-R than these... ;)

Judging by the amount of time it took to get the 350Z from the pen to the road (they couldn't decide how to make it look) I think they will be keeping a lot of the basic shape the same..

I think they should make it more angular like the GTR... the 350Z has alway been a lot softer and slight more girly...

Gosh they have already produced GTR style bodykits, look kinda nice but a bit odd..

I was thumbing through a Super Street in the waiting area at the Wal-mart oil-change: they featured a Drift Z33...and thought it looked like an Evo. Had that bodykit...

Silly Ricers...

It already seems that the GTR already has a bit of a soft look to it. I can see that being disastrous on an even softer, lower car which won't be able to pack enough aggression to make up for it. They'll need a pretty big hit to get my interest back in the car.

From what little they show, the front looks like it'll have a more sharky, S2000/GT-R kind of shape to it, which is nice.

I'm of the same opinion as the Euro mags; the current Z feels a like it could do very well sticking to the 911's formula of small little evolutions over anything drastic. The recent refresh looks good to me and I don't see a reason for them to stray far from a proven formula.

Oh no, I hope this isn't the direction they go in. That car looks horrible, I hope thats the luxury edition or something.

The headlights in that view lose their cool freshness and look just plain bad. It looks to me like the fender flares have been sucked in a little. The hood makes it look like a pansy, it fades up then fades right back down when it meets the windshield. IMO it should be more like a cowl induction hood, with and inch or two raise at the windshield, to give the car a more aggressive look.

Its not exactly a huge leap forward, but it should be enough to keep people coming into the dealers to buy the car. Simply put, its going to need the updated interior to be truly competitive (sat in an RX-8 Rotary 40th Anniversary the other day, wow), and the upgraded power would certainly be beneficial to have it keep up (or beat) the competition.

Problem is: I don't think they're getting rid of weight. If they removed, say, 500 lbs, the attitude of the car would be altered in a very positive way.

"Baby GT-R," it may happen. They're going to share most of their parts now, so its a matter of getting one with two seats or four. Too bad, I would have loved to see the return of the Fairlady 2+2 Turbo.

After going in and blotting out the headlights, I'll have to say that there is some potential with the lines on the thing. Too bad it's just so hard to get your eyes around them.

New, modern, contemporary headlights. Very..... What's the word.....

Rubbish....

Some of the lines are ok, but those headlights make it look like the car is attempting to park it's breakfast....

innovation for the sake of innovation.👎

Most of you know I've never been much of a Nissan guy. Never really liked Nissans for some reason. They make great cars, and two of my all-time favorite sports cars are the Datsun 240Z and even the 260Z. I look at this spy shot of the 370Z from Post #15, and some of the spy shot kind of remind me of a spy or concept picture of one of Nissan's rivals- the 21st Century Toyota Supra concept pictures. Some of the cues are there ranging from its profile to the big grill and even the headlights. The side ducts kind of remind me of a concept Toyota picture I've seen before.

I do like the Brilliant Blue Nissan has. However, I dislike black wheels. I'd prefer either it in some aftermarket racing-style wheels of either 5-spokes, 6-spokes, or 8-spokes in either silver or gold (like most modern Subarus). At the absolute worst, the car may end up carrying all cues from the GT-R and end up looking bloody terrible. I'm usually okay with big headlights or even sleek headlights. I'm just not the kind wanting super-small headlights like most tuner car types that apply some of those terrible eye-liners for headlights. Never liked those. Never wanted to dress up a car with any. Much worst is having a black-colored car with black light covers on the headlights and taillights. I have no idea about the rear of the car, so I'll reserve my judgment.

For a guy that's not really a Nissan guy, this looks to continue the proud lineage of Nissan sports cars. Looks very cool from what I'm seeing so far. By the way, I LOVE those 350Zs from Post #6. Very sporty-looking cars. As usual, I'd paint the "mustache" the same color as the rest of the car. I know elongated grills are all the rage now, but I'm still not excited about that dark-colored bar.

:indiff: I am highly doubtful of that image.

BUT if it does have some resemblance to the next Z car, I say it is awful. It looks like they are trying WAYYYYY too hard. That was why the 350Z was so successful, it has a simple flowing design without the complicated lines, making it sleek and sexy. That thing looks like Britney Spears compared to the current model.

When Nissan launched the 350Z in '02, it was working hard to reinvent itself and the new Z was clearly its halo car in the U.S. market. Now that that the revival has come and gone, expect the new 370Z to take on a new tack as a harder edged vehicle. In fact, Nissan plans to take on Porsche, the most classic of all sportscar manufacturers, with its newest coupe. Equipped with a larger 335-hp 3.7-liter V6 engine and having gone on a serious diet, possibly shedding as much as 200 lbs, the new Z will definitely have the cojones to keep up with its foes, including the Cayman, and its shorter wheelbase and wider track should conspire to make it quite the handler as well. We'll get our first official look at the new son-of-Godzilla at the LA Auto Show, shorty after which the Nissan 370Z should show up in Japanese dealerships with U.S. delivery at a later date. Hopefully, not too much later.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't the main purpose of the Z been to be the "poor man's" poor man Corvette? Either way, they're making a big promise with performance, and I'm all for it.

Lets hope the interior quality improves while they're at it.

more power and less weight is great. the rumor is it will be 35k though. quite a bit more than the sub 30k car currently on sale. i'm skeptical that it'll really hit 60 in under 5 seconds.
