1999 was one of the final years for the Super Touring rules in the BTCC and was also the last time more than 4 works teams competed in the BTCC at the same time, and also the first season to feature a night race. It was also a very successful season for privateer Matt Neal in a Team Dynamics Primera, winning the first race of the season at Donington (Earning himself a £250,000 bonus), beating even the works teams, and won the Independents Cup with 353 points, earning even more points than Laurent Aiello (Winner of the Drivers Championship). Matt Neal was the highest placing Independent in 19 out of 24 races, and Team Dynamics finished 5th in the Teams championship, placing higher than the Ford works team.
