In the early 90s, Nissan were on a roll in the JSPC (All Japan Sports Prototype Championship) having scored multiple championships. When Nissan decided to campaign cars for the Rolex 24 at Daytona in 1992, they bought along not only two R90CKs for the GTP category, but they also bought along a car for the invitational class: The Championship winning R91CP. When it was all said and done, the car managed to run the entire race flawlessly and won with a 9 lap lead over the 2nd placed Jaguar, making Nissan the first (and still, only) Japanese Manufacterer to win the event overall.

This car would be a great addition to have alongside its championship winning brethren of the same year.
Engine: Nissan 3.5L Twin-Turbo V8

I'm not sure but R92CP had never raced in Lemans. I wonder why at that time Nissan put a R91CP instead of a R92CP to race the 24hrs Daytona in 1992.

The R92CP wasn't quite complete yet and Nissan was interested in that invitational class IMSA had so they just choose to field a car they already had (which already was proven plenty fast in Japan).

By the way what are the shark fin erected above the front wheel used for? Don't they adversely affect the drag in the straight.

I believe that's one of the mirrors.

Oh I mean the two front spoilers above the front wheel hood. Nissan has made many stranage cars with strange parts. This, NP35, deltawing and the GTR-LM are very unique.

Well, its a rather interesting treatment of pulling air through the wheel well (as opposed to using traditional louvers). Not exactly sure how its done without much drag penalty.
