Now, I don't want to jump over a mound of tires as it just might be the way sound is compressed over the original GT4 sample, but it sounds better. There's even a distant echo when it's driving out of the camera's immediate range, perhaps more importantly there's a very distinct difference between the engine audio samples when switching from interior/bonnet to chase cam or the third person view - the former is more of a pitched whine, much akin to what you'd get from any strung out race car in an interior view. Whereas the latter sounds a little bit like the sample from GT4 but further improved, there's a mix of the whine and the grunt that's heard in GT4, a reverberation of sorts on both accounts.

Is this something to go by, a "what to expect" from GT5?

EDIT: Just as a side note, this thing is totally un-🤬-drivable without TCS being enabled.

3 mil.

It spins through first and second without traction control, but that's not the problem - try turning a corner and you'll end up exactly where you're turning but into a wall or onto a patch of dirt/grass.

Without sensitivity, it's just too sharp and you can't adjust LSD.

Unless you are able to get your PS3 controller and a TV screen for your PSP, I highly doubt you can drive a group C car without TC on. I know on GT4 I've pretty much mastered all the Group C cars without TC (Nurburgring served as my training ground)

A lot of cars sound better, especially racing cars. The basic sounds are similar but they have more life to them and sound more like racing cars.

Of course it's going to be hard ot drive, it's a Group B car isn't it? That's called realism by PD.👍

I wouldn't go that far, every single car whether it be a race car or a supercar that has at least 400 hp on tap either excessively understeers, or stap steers into every corner resulting in you having to tap the throttle, or better yet get off the accelerator and dry steer the car back into it's proper orientation.

Group C.

And indeed the 92 Le Mans Nissan is a beast to drive. TCS=5 will do fine.

I also noticed the improved sound on many cars.

There is only so much they can do with the limited sensitivity of the PSP, perhaps they could have allowed us to tune more aspects of the car to help but even still, the buttons only let you on/off the throttle, PD can't fix that.

So, no, its not "what to expect of GT5" seeing as the PS3 controller uses analogue buttons.

Also the Formula GT has more than 400bhp and is perfectly manageable :P Of course aero helps.

The "What to expect" wasn't referring to the handling, it was a reference to the seemingly improved audio effects. :sly:

I just lost a lot of interest in this game after buying the 1970 Toyota 7 Race Car. Please tell me that not all the race cars drive like this.

I don't have the 7 but most of the cars drive erratically, yes.

The powerful ones anyway.

If it's anything like GT4 then yes that car is a beast! 788 horsepower in a 600kg car with 1970's aerodynamics :scared:

But don't worry all the "Group C" cars like the Sauber C9, Toyota GT-ONE or the Audi R8 are harder on this one than GT4 but still nice to drive.

Are you using professional physics?

Anything before the late 90s, Yes. All the horsepower without all the aero aids and TCS like the race cars of today(assuming you have a certain setting) naturally is gonna have alot of wheel spin.

Why couldn't they have the "O" button as 50% throttle and "X" as normal on/off throttle. This would help alot with feathering the throttle in corners that require an analog-style touch. If you want to floor it hit "X" if you want to balance the car use "O".

(Maybe even fine tuning of how much power "O" gives from 1-100% in a menu pref?)

If I designed a driving game for PSP I would do this to make up for the 1990's control design...

As Mr Miagi might of once said "Power on, power off, Power on... slide into crash"

If you can't handle the digital way of driving, go back to GT1&2 and reteach yourself how to drive.

Seriously though for those used to the analogue controls of the more recent GTs I think it might be a bit of a shock to the system.

Something else I've noticed is when driving on Opera Paris, certain pieces of the track are cobbled (I would assume). And when you drive over then there is a very low, background rumbling of the tyres going over the cobbles. I can't remember if this was featured in GT4 and I feel ashamed because I drove that track loads. I'll have to check. But I thought it was a nice feature anyway.

Also a shame that you can't see the Eiffel tower, if you look in google street view from the Place de le concorde (the open bit by the start/finish line) you can see the Eiffel tower a bit but it's not there in GT... at least I can't see it where it should be.

A good way of avoiding all of these power crazed problems is to drive lesser powerful cars, I for one enjoy the challenge of trying to keep momentum whilst using brakes that are on or off........oppisite problem if you think about it.

Ths sounds in GTPSP is very good, especially the race cars. I don't know how it is in GT3/4, but in GT1/2 almost every race car sounds similar, not to mention the lack of background engine noise. In GTPSP the rally cars have that distinctive whine, and the LMP cars have that raspy tone underneath the screaming engine. The engine sound changes markedly if you switch from cockpit to chase cam too. Good stuff.

Dear god, someone get this man a ride to PD and a trout to slap some developers with.

Hahahaha. While I had to adjust to it, Its not hard for me since I learned to drive in GT1 with just the D-pad and the X and square buttons before I got the duelshock.

Thanks!

I saw Yamauchi-san at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year but he was busy judging the cars. I yelled out "Mr Gran Turismo!" which brought a smile but sadly I forgot to share my ideas lol.

On the whole sound subject, I noticed last night that there's a distinctive echo when driving through the narrow sections of Cita Di Aria, especially in replays. Don't remember that from GT4.

Continuing the sound subject, I was taking a GT-R around a tight corner and distinctly heard the hushed squeek of a tire going over the painted tarmac on kerbing.

Don't remember that from GT4 either. :)

One thing I highly recommend for you guys and anyone with a PSP is to get the iHome Speaker. Its a small speaker, but it has great sound quality. It really brings out the spectacular engine sounds.
