Xbox??? Who is this Xbox??
Hey guys,
So I'm about to buy a build from Newegg however I am quite concerned about the possibility of receiving a DOA product (god forbid). So, I wanted to know that if a DOA product arrives, how much of a hassle will it be to return the product? Is it possible to RMA it straight to the manufacturer? What are the odds of a DOA? Is it safer to spend a little more and get my build from somewhere more expensive but safer like Tiger Direct and Canada Computers where I can go to the store myself?

Newegg gives you the RMA number right away from my experiences. I've gotten my money back for some items with no questions asked(make sure you check the warranty from newegg, each one is different).

Doa items they take care of without a hassle. Other things not so much.

Cheaper to buy locally? Unless you have a tiger direct or micro center or fry's or ncix and don't have to pay taxes then maybe.

Newegg pretty much handles things no questions asked for the first 30 days. Ive been fortunate enough to never get a doa product from them but a close friend recently did. Got a new mobo replaced in about a week.... That turned out to not even be the problem so he called again and got a replacement power supply within in a couple of days.

Its actually more expensive to buy locally.

For this build:
i5 2500k
6850
6GB DDR3
MSI P67A-G45/G43
Rosewill Destroyer/ Similar
Raidmax 530W/ Similar

Newegg - Grand total- $741.88

Tiger Direct - Grand total - $802.70 (15 min drive)

Canada Computers - Grand Total - $775.05 (10 min drive)

My budget is in the low $700's as I will be purchasing a new bike and a new monitor soon.

I'm ordering tonight. Any objections?

The RAM is now 4GB because I couln't find the use for 6. And the Motherboard is a BIOSTAR TZ68A+, reccomended by techPowerup. I need to make this as close as $600 as I can (not including shipping.) I am at $740 right now. The PSU is now also an Antec Silver rated one.

Just get yourself this and save yourself $46. With your budget you should not be worried with performance. You worry about the price first and then performance.

:D You just made my PC $20 under budget... YAY! One question, is an Optical drive necessary? One more question... how about this one since I've got $20 to spend?

Also, USB 3.0? Is it necessary?

Another thing regarding the PSU. My mom found a Tiger Direct Gift card for $35 and I was wondering if this would be good to pick up tommorow.

On sale for $50

Yes you will need a optical drive to install windows. You can also get this case and save yourself $9. You also forgot a hard drive. You can get this one since the newer motherboards don't accept IDE devices.

You can if the motherboard can boot from a USB dvd drive.

Edit: Get this RAM. Cheaper and faster since you are using the dual channel technology. Also get two or more of these fans. Pushes more airflow for a really low noise level at a good price.

Fix the newegg links up till the last one.

Edit: You can save $8 on shipping with this GPU. Lower price but has a rebate to $139.99 with free shipping. Also save a dollar with this DVD drive. If you want a new keyboard and mouse, this combo is pretty cheap. I got my Uncle the same keyboard and moused and he liked it.

That's on Newegg.COM.

BTW, those links up to the last one were identical to the set of links the post before.

Hey, I have an external CD drive downstairs. I'm planning on buying an IDE to USB off eBay for $5. That should do the job.

Also, I think I'll take 8gb of RAM, as I might need it later on. Also, I'll save the Tiger Direct gift card with the monitor.

Also, I'm downgrading to a Powercolor 6770, saving me $50 ($109)

Instead, I'm upgrading my mobo to this:

I found another hard drive for $21 less. So that will cover for the price of the DVD drive. Hard drive has less cache(that's what makes the black series fast) but has the same hard drive space and same 7200RPM.

Saved you $7 with this RAM's free shipping. Plus it has a heatsink. Pretty good memory brand for cheap(got a set of rAM in my parent's computer). I'd recommend getting the fans I recommended from tiger direct. Those Rosewill's are not worth the money. Poor airflow and that's not worth it for some LED's.

Ok then, I think I'm ready to order now. I've got the RAMs in the cart and the fans removed.

Newegg Grand Total: $684

I'm now searching for coupons:

Found an $11 off coupon - Collegetour11

Seems good to me. I don't have anymore ideas to improve the price. So what's the current price so far?

$672 with the coupon. LOL my dad came into the room and he was like.
"So what EXACTLY are you ordering?"
I said all the parts and then he was like:
"ONLY an i5?"

Funny thing is... he has a Q8200. Jelly much?

If he's looking for something on the quieter side, I would recommend against them.

35DBa is still in the range of conversation noise and I find it perfectly fine for my HTPC's cooler(it's a thin Sythe Big Shuriken and that produces 38DBa, still tolerable for me and it's not a deal breaker). It's when you get into 40-50DBa is where it gets noisy.

Edit: This fan would be a nice balance between good airflow and noise even if you were to use just one.

The PC I have now (the one I'm using ATM) is REALLY loud. Its got 2x 80mm fans and a stock Intel cooler running at max. You can hear it all the way downstairs in the kitchen.

Sounds like it's making as much as 40DBa. My cooler makes noise but I only hear it from one room away and it's just a smooth air whoosh sound.

I'm getting 29 dBA max for your cooler.

Personally, conversation level sounds pretty loud to me. It's not necessary to go that high to get good cooling. I would recommend something around 1200RPM for a good noise/flow balance.
