No career mode? Why?!

Ok, I know this was discussed previously, but really, why? I know the game is meant for playing for short periods of time, but you can always pause and sleep the PSP. Come on, even :censor:d: NFS has a career mode. All this has is a few challenges, completing which doesn't even unlock cars of tracks. Why? Even the GT1 arcade mode had unlockables.

We've been through this a lot of times before. This game is not designed for a career mode. Nothing more, nothing less. I just make my own racing series if I feel like it (with the help of this: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=124125&highlight=generator). Sure a career mode would've been nice, but I'm having enough fun as it is :D One of the greatest strengths of the GT series has always been it's replay value, without relying on the traditional generic and linear 'career' progression. As someone in another thread said, "If you can't find a way to prolong the life of GTPSP, you're doing something wrong."

If GTPSP 2 ever comes out though, I fully expect a career mode.

The prize cars give me replay value (for example I had to gold all the licenses and replay all the tournaments under Special Events in GT1 to get them all). Maybe that's kuz I think of GT as more like Pokemon with cars. That's maybe why the game is so popular with regular gamers, and not just gearheads.

I catch your drift. Sometimes I think: if Poly would create career in the game, they would have to remove something else, right? What? What do you think is in GT that shouldn't be there?

I just don't think it would have been possible to create a fully fledged career mode on a portable system, not while working on GT5. It would have diverted them away from GT5 and slowed its progress. It probably would not have been to the level of previous games career mode too if they did.

If they do another PSP game they may work on it and spend more time developing it when they have the time

It would have taken very little effort. The game is a stripped-down port of GT4. Most of the challenges/cups would stay that same. The few that had tracks that aren't on GT PSP (like George V) could be easily altered into a new cup race.

What takes up the most space on UMDs are audio files and movies (like the opening one and the ending credits/GT5 preview). There is more than enough space left over (1.2 GB used vs. 1.8 GB available) to retain some simple game code and it's menus.

Ill tell you one thing, even if Poly added more dlc for this game in the psn i would be happier than ever. to bad we will never find out if that will happen or not. (if any1 finds out about and new upcoming updates, dlc, let me knw)

It's at the end of the 'Ending movie'. I assume that GT PSP hasn't got enough space for a career, with 830 cars stored in a small disc, running at 60fps. If PD added a career, then many features would be taken out.

I would have signed for GT4 adapted to PSP... instead we have some sort of a mutant without a soul.

It would have taken some menus, some code and some cursory graphics. PD were in no way limited by space.

Space wasn't the limitation... it's simply the lack of desire and/or the flawed belief that GT fans wouldn't want a career mode on a handheld.

SOme PSP games reach up to 1.80 GB size. So yeah I agree UMD space wasn't the issue. GTPSP is at 990mb max. Another 900mb is more than enough for a Career mode.
I think GTPSP fits the portable nature. Its either intended to be Pre-GT5 promotion or as Detroitbb pointed out... the FLAWED BELIEF.
And I guess PD didn't expect that people will really play the game for hours and hours at home. I know some people who despise playing the PSP at home and rather play it on the train, taxis, buses while commuting. They thought it was pointless to play a nice game on a handheld at home. I pity them. :)

At first i was bummed with the lack of career mode. But now i see that i wouldn't like it as much if it was implemented. It's so easy to start collecting cars right away and you are not restricted on which car you want to choose.

It's perfect for a handheld because of it's "choose your own race" format. You can make the race as long as the time you need to spend to pass time.

Wait for the end of the credits, and you will see one reason why there was no career...

I barely realized GTPSP is just a giant GT5 advertisement.

You mean like the arcade mode of every single other Gran Turismo game?
