I've recently upgraded my mobo, and the speakers aren't happy. They are plugged in correctly but I only get 3 speakers + subwoofer working if I set it to 7:1, whereas it's a 5:1 system. However, if I set it to 5:1 I only get sound out of front and sub. I'm not getting any sound out of the centre speakers, having tried all configurations I can think of.

The speakers are Creative Inspire P580
Drivers: Realtek Audio '97
Sound card is nForce 4 (according to system info on my nVidia utility)

I can't get any sound out of plugging the headphones into the headphone jack on the volume control.

Is there something I need to enable/disable in the BIOS? Afaik the drivers are up to date, the speakers themselves don't have any drivers.

Any more info needed? I haven't done an external audio test on the various speakers, but given that I know they were all working on the last mobo it would seem a bit pointless.

You might want to take a read here of the nForce 4. Its better to get a sound card than to use intergrated sound.

Try using the speakers in another computer that has 5.1 surround sound. If they all work then its not the speakers problem.

Hmm, so which is the best firewall for me to use? I'm running ESET NOD32 btw.

Will get a sound card, though will have to wait a few weeks to do that.

In relation to this. Anyone got a Creative X-FI? If so, are they good? I'm looking at getting one of these as a sound card.

Thx TB :)
yup, i just got one. i ordered a refurbished (looks like they added a heatsink and maybe some better capacitors) one off of http://us.creative.com/shop/shopcategory.asp?category=84& $59 total to have it shipped to me vs 100 or so for retail.

I got the X-Fi Xtreme music, which is the same as the xtreme Gamer, except full profile rather than lowprofile and gold plating rathe than color coded. Its a true X-Fi soundcard unlike the X-Fi xtreme audio.

Sounds good. Will have to look into a bit more when I have some time.

I've got no sound on youtube either now...

it may be a more serious problem 0_o . I read somewhere that a large percentage of motherboards put out on sale are defective. :(

*BUMP*

Finally fixed this. Got a hold of a sound card (free, from a mate) and it started working. I had a mild panic attack (nee panic attack, more swearing filled dining room) when my monitor wouldn't get a signal, couldn't figure out why. The PCI slot I had used was duff, put it in a new one and voila.

Means I can finally use this decent PC once I've transferred files and e-mails over. 👍
