bacause Home gets delayed again???

You're going to have to wait a little bit longer for Home. Sony's much-discussed online service debuted at GDC over a year ago, but it's still been restricted to a number of closed beta participants. According to a new press release by both SCEA and SCEE, the closed beta testing will continue through Summer, with an open beta finally available in the Fall.

"We understand that we are asking PS3 and prospective PS3 users to wait a bit longer, but we have come to the conclusion that we need more time to refine the service to ensure a more focused gaming entertainment experience than what it is today," said Kazuo Hirai, President and Group CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. "Our overarching objective is to provide users with new gaming experiences that are available only on PLAYSTATION Home. Spending more time on the development and on the Closed Beta testing reaffirms our commitment to bringing a quality service, maintaining the PlayStation tradition."

It appears that more people will be invited into the closed beta. However, this recent delay of Home is continuing a disturbing trend of promises that are delivered late or not at all, such as in-game XMB and game invites -- these features are far more valuable than an online world to walk through. We're sure everyone will echo the same sentiment: it's been taking Sony much too long to deliver on these promises. Stay tuned for any new developments regarding the Home beta.

everytime I hear or see a news about Home I get boring 👎 👎 👎

Stupid Home is ruining everything! All I want is in game XMB! Sony has said it's coming for the past year! My original Xbox had the ability to see my friends list while in a game for Pete's sake!

In game XMB is confirmed with update 2.40...

Head over to the PS3 update thread for more info...👍

What does this have to do with private lobbies as an in-game update to GT5P?

Exactly what I was thinking

Sony allows developers to use whatever online plan they want, they are not forced to use home for online

wasnt there some talks about co-op between home and private lobbies in gt5?
as far as I know there was. home will lead some new online features such as private lobbies, in game chat etc..
correct me if I am wrong

Yes, there was talk, back when Home was supposed to be out last fall. The moment Home got pushed back Prologue had the Home icon removed and all interactivity talk stopped. So, any delays since last fall are not related to Home.

Home is the Duke Nukem Forever of PS3.

👍

I already hate home before its out! can't we just have a possibility to chat and invite friends during a game?
i mean 1st thing i noticed on ps3 was that the chat closed when starting any game. what's it good for then? hey lets play, alright but we cant talk or even meet up, ok good game man!
lol Sony watsup???

I assume this is purely referring to GT5P as private games are easily setup in Warhawk, and if you want to join a friend already playing you just go to your in-game friends list and say you want to join them.

then this a good news for GT5. as you said in your next post some ps3 games have a good server capacity. warhawk, motorstorm, resistance... private lobbies, in game chat and other functions are working great. why not gt5p? ofcourse it's possible.

One thing we know is that home will be a part of GT5.

Now are you going to code friends list, lobbies etc and then recode it all again for home? I doubt PD will do this.

BTW in game XMB is not confirmed for 2.40. Sony have only said they are aiming for a certain time of year. Nothing is official to my knowledge and they never mentioned a specific firmware.

Apparently Home is going to provide its own form of "achievements".
Nearly 3 years into the consoles life those "achievements" arn't going to mean much are they Sony?

What a disappointment for Sonys loyal fans, the Delaystation 3 strikes again.:ouch:

I have a feeling that Pd is being as perfectionist about it as they are everything, so instead of one giant online system with bugs and issues that need updates on a regular basis (I'm looking at you Warhawk) we are getting bits and pieces added as they go.

If you ever read the comments section on the Playstation Blog every time they post something about Warhawk it is full of complaints about glitches and bugs in the online system that I have never even noticed. It is easier for PD to do it a bit at a time and handle one group of issues at a time.

That's my thought anyway.

They have to, not everyone will use Home. I think that is the big thing everyone is forgetting here. Home is not a requirement for access to online gaming on the PS3, so any games with Home interactivity will still need their regular system in place.

To use Warhawk again (it's the only other game I play online regularly) they have their in-game system with lobbies and stuff set up already. They will also have Home interactivity that will be an enhanced system.

No, I don't know how the in-game XMB thing keeps getting said. All that has been said is that 2.4 will have in-game messaging, so we don't have to exit if we see a friend send us a message.

Now I can see why people think this could be in-game XMB, because it does seem a bit silly to allow us to access our Friend's List but nothing else.

But many people need to remember this could just be a matter of pushing the PS button and having the additional options of reading messages and creating a new message.

I think too many people are getting their hopes up about in-game XMB. I have already seen torches and pitchforks whipped out after 2.2 and 2.3 didn't have it, just because the rumor mill said it would be there and gamers felt cheated when it wasn't.

Now, personally I don't think a full-fledged in-game XMB is necessary as customizable soundtracks is possible already (Super Stardust does it, PAIN! will upgrade to it, and Wipeout HD will do it) with any game if the developers choose to do it, and 2.4 will bring in-game communication. I don't see the point in a full in-game XMB access after that.

Can't we just forget the home integration and just have PD set up a simple lobby system??????????? or a friend invite system, I really don't wanna wait much longer to be able to race my mates:grumpy:

Kazunori Yamauchi said private lobbies were coming as early as autumn. So, I wouldn't start getting anxious until then. Otherwise you guys will just work yourselves up and it won't change a thing.

someone want to chime in on what xmb means?
also what is "home"? to chat with friends? all I see is a sims game

XMB stands for cross media bar, its the PS3 operating system interface, basically the thing that you navigate side to side, and up and down. Sony also use it on other products including their TV's and cameras. Some people find it really hard to get used to, I find it quite intuitive TBH...

Home is meant to be like the sims meets second life, its basically a fancy looking social network just designed for PS3 use, its also meant to link in with games and allow you to chat, meet up with people and play games etc..

Hope that helps 👍
