No PSN STore = NO Online MP

So, the those of us whos PSN Store down cant play online. We have to download some stupid VIP Code to unlock youtube or whatever and ONLINE MULTIPLAYER.

is there a way around this? I wish companies would ditch these silly codes for multiplayer altogether.

No way around this, companies do this to chip in on the 2nd hand market. And CodeMasters are not the only ones either, EA does it too (Shift 2).

I wanted to try the online mode as soon as I started the game, but I guess we'll have to wait for the PSN Store to come back online. Until then, I'm having enough fun doing the DiRT Tour, so I'm not too fussed about online right now.

Well, in Mortal Kombat they made it kinda fair, same system but as long as the Store is not up, you don't need the code. Don't know why Codemasters didn't do the same.

It gets worse. Just looked on the blog. Store won't be up tomorrow but they are performing maintenence tonight. Started one hour ago and lasts for another 7 hours. Store will be up within the end of the month which isn't too bad but why on earth wasn't the store up with the rest of the network. This has gone from mildly annoying to massive inconvenience with one game release.

Because of this exact reason I am getting this on XBOX (with the ****** wheel) rather than on PS3 (with the G25), PSN in Asia has no sign of being up anytime soon.......and I have purchased 3 games on the 360 over PS3 in fear or unlock codes and hidden content already.

They wanted to get the online gaming aspect back up ASAP and make sure it's stable before they faff about with PS Store.
It is just a mild inconvenience, not the end of the world.
At least this way people might get some experience with the game and not jumping straight online and being a total noob.

It's not that bad, there's tonnes to do in SP on Dirt3. As for why the store wasn't up with the rest of the network, credit card information, etc, dictates that. Sony cannot afford for their security measures to fail within months of this.

That's not true, they're just not trying hard enough. They could focus more on DLC and software updates instead of releasing new discs every year, taking a more software-as-a-service approach to have a tighter grip on the content distribution.

Or if it's too hard to adjust their business models to an evolving marketplace, they could, you know, make better games that last longer that people don't want to sell.

And for all their whining about second-hand sales, game publishers sure do a lot of exclusive business with Gamestop, a beast of their own creation. I worked for a game publisher and they said GameStop was just as important, if not more-so, than Best Buy and Walmart. If Gamestop asked them to make a change in a game or a release date, they usually did. If game publishers stopped selling to Gamestop and bending over backwards for them, I don't think Gamestop would last very long and that used game market would take a significant hit. Don't let the excuses fool you.

You do realise it's a security thing, right? It's to protect their product by preventing people from sharing the game around.

I could live w/o the MP for now although it would've been fun to race with a bunch of noobs that dont have a clue and actually have a chance to win

by the time MP works on PS3 people will be pros and will be way beyond me haha

But what really disappoints me- I got the PS3 version mainly for the Monster SX4 Hill climb from gamestop (otherwise would've chosen PC most likely). But due to this excessive ps3 store outage, I'm unable to acquire the bonus product I paid for

Wish they could at least allow us to redeem codes at the store thats all I'm asking for.
