I've done some googling and all the related topics seem to be when people having been moving their ps3 from one TV to another, however mine has been on the same TV for months and all of a sudden won't show up on it.

I have also tried holding the power button (when red) for a few seconds but that hasn't helped. I know that my HDMI cable and TV are fine too.

Anyone know of any solutions to this? or is my ps3 completely screwed?

hmm.. If you have some Componnent/Composite cables, try those instead on the TV and see if your PS3 pushes a signal then. If not, then it's probably the PS3.. :indiff:

If you hold down the power button it resest it to componned cable, so there's no HDMI signal sent. You have to connect it by componned cable then switch it to HDMI to be able to see it. Happen to me a couple of time. Usually I use an old PS2 cable. If you dont have one, ask around you.

The PS3 comes with exactly the same cable. It's composite though and not component, not sure what you meant with componned.

Maybe one of the pins on the PS3's HDMI port are broken/bent?

I suggest (if you can) trying a different PS3 on the same TV. If the other PS3 outputs an image and yours doesn't, your PS3 is the problem.

I thought it was the A/V cable. But I would suggest trying the composite, with the power button. If it doesn't work then its the ps3.

if you don't have any component/ composite cables then you can switch to HDMI 'blindly' by following these steps:

First make sure that your TV is on the correct channel (e.g. HDMI 1 / HDMI2 etc...).

Turn on your PS3.

Press X (Only if you need to select a user. If not then ignore this step).

Hold left for a good 2 seconds.

Press right once.

Hold down for a good 3 seconds.

Press up 4 times.

Press X.

Press X again.

Press up 3 times.

Press X.

Press X again.

You've now selected HDMI, and so you should see a picture, so from then on just follow what it tells you to do on screen, if not then your HDMI cable or PS3 is probably faulty.

Hope that helps xD.

Of course is it the AV cable or have you ever seen a PS2 or PS3 with Composite or component port(s)?

Component cables can also look like this:

I know, they normally don't look like that :D.
But yes, the ones that comes with the PS3 are composite cables 👍.

Just a suggestion, but have you tried cleaning the HDMI-output port on your PS3?

Basically component refers to the RGB video cables, composite is a single video cable typically yellow. Both would also use the red and white pair for audio as does s-video and the PS3 should work on any of those or in HDMI mode.

Been a while since I changed the source on mine but I remember it was a pain to set to HDMI the first time, fortunately I had 2 TVs and hooked up one with the component cables and the other with HDMI to make it easier to tell what I was doing.

You don;t want composite though unless you are using a standard def TV as the picture will be very poor compared to RGB or HDMI

It doesn't, actually. Holding down the power button until it makes a series of beeps resets the video output settings, yes, but it still outputs through whichever output it detects a display connected to. That includes HDMI.

It'll default to 480i/576p, but it will still output over HDMI if you only have an HDMI display connected. You have to reset the video output settings when going from an HDMI display to a component/composite TV and vice versa, but that's it.

I have indeed, no difference though. Both TV's are recognising the HDMI signal when the ps3 is turned on but nothing shows up.

Have you connect your AV cables that came with your PS3 instead of HDMI cable if you get a picture through your AV cable then it a HDMI issue.

On the first model it's not the case. It doesnt output HDMI. Like I say it happen to me a few times.

As for what the cable is named, honestly I had no idea how to call it in english.

I've tried with the AV cables and it's working fine. My problem now is that I know my hdmi cable works with other things. Big thanks to everyone who has helped!

So if you go to the settings and switch to HDMI output you only get a blackscreen?

It could be possible that something happened to the HDMI port on the device. I have not had nor heard of this sort of issue with the PS3 but have had this issue on other devices.

My DVR for example stopped working through the HDMI port, works fine on component cables still but does nothing through HDMI. In this case the power went out and afterwards the HDMI never worked again. I tested everything and determined there was no signal on that Port from the DVR

I think I have the same problem, the playstation connects fine with the AV/Component cables but as soon as I plug the HDMI cable in too the screen goes blank.
