Hey all. I am a new to the forum and wanted to introduce myself. Anyway. I am considering a CSR wheel and pedal set as I got used to playing Gran Turismo with a Logitech wheel back in the day and Racing games without a wheel just doesn't cut it for me.

I consider myself to be a hard core Sim Racer and always drive clean and avoid and or get angry when contact is made. I have enjoyed the first portion of the game,(Sportsman/Clubman) and have progressed easily so far using the remote. I can tell I will be frustrated by the lack of control offered by a remote soon enough, especially online. Going lock to lock under power easily induces a tail wagging fit from the car, which is fine by me as it would seem to indicate good/proper physics engine and a challenging experience, which is what I want.

Can anyone tell me about the CSR experience? How does it compare to a remote in lap times?. How does it compare to Gran Turismo if you have experience with GT?

Thanks for any input and hope to see you out there soon.

Until you get a wheel, I would recommend switching from Simulation Steering (which I assume you went for first) to Normal Steering. It's not really an assist, just a better steering model for the controller. I think you'll appreciate the difference, the physics don't change. 👍

Welcome to ForzaPlanet. :)

I have the CSR set up with the Rennsport stand. It is worth every penny. I have never enjoyed my racing more...and I go back a long way lol. Take the plunge and you will not regret it.

I highly suggest getting one. My lap times are a few seconds slower than controller but with practice they'll be the same.

Thanks. The normal steering is a little number and easier to use. definitely helped for remote. That and going with an auto so I could use triggers.
This is a good game I am enjoying quite a bit. Wish it offered a less expensive wheel option other than German Fanatec though. Twice as expensive for a wheel on XBox? Got to fix that somehow. How about a wheel made in the U.S.A.?

You can always pick up a used (or even new sometimes) FFB MS wheel on eBay for well under $100. Not a bad wheel for the $$ in most people's opinion.

I love the CSR wheel. My only comparison is the G27 (which I used with GT5) and it is much better. CSR elite pedals vs G27 pedals is a world of difference. My only complaint with the wheel is the fan noise - which can be easily remedied by cranking up the volume.

This^^
My local game shop just told me about those and highly recommended it. I am considering/looking for one now. Seen a couple vids out there for them and the FFB looks soft. However the guy at game store could not stop raving about them and how sought after they are. Was not even trying to sell me one. Told me to go Ebay. I found one somewhat locally with a second copy of Forza I am probably going to pick up. Stoked.
Anything i should be aware of? Might actually be able to take my game online soon!!

I have one of the MS wheels. Back when I had the logitech g27 for GT5, it was my only wheel for xbox. Here's my opinion, the MS wheel isn't on the same level as the G27 or fanatec wheels - but it's 1000x better than a controller. I've had mine for a while and it still works great.

Hi guys i'm in the same boat as youngnate13, I have just recently moved over to FM4 from GT5 and I badly need a wheel. I was using the G25 on PS3 and now I need help to make a choice of which wheel I should get. I would get the CSR Elite but cant afford that right now so it is either the CSR or the GT2. Which wheel would you recomend for driving quality?

would this be the order?

all Fanatec

1. CSR Elite.
2. CSR
3. GT2

and if so in what way is the CSR better than the GT2?

According to ISR (take it with a pinch of salt), the CSR is more smooth and refined, and is light so it is more like a racing wheel. The GT2 has a more "luxurious" feel, and the added weight gives the steering dampening; as a result it feels more like a road car since the mass of the wheel gives the GT2 a different feel from the CSR.

I really want a wheel, but its quite a bit of money. In my mind it is either spending the money on the CSR Pack (CSR w/ CSR pedals) or the GT2 Clubsports. Looking at that the CSR pack looks like a good deal, but I really want those damn clubsports!

but I really want those damn clubsports!

Yep that's what I was thinking I love the idea of the brakes giving feedback but it's just so expensive.

For now i'm just thinking of buying the wheel alone and buy a G25 convertor as I have the wheel and then buy the clubsports pedals and maybe the shifter at a later date I just cant make a decision on which wheel, I like the fact that the GT2 does feel like a real road car wheel and could be my choice as long as the feedback is the same as the CSR otherwise it will have to be the CSR.

I have the GT2 and the clubsport pedals... All I will say is research the wheel before you purchase it. They are some thing about the wheel that is frustrasting. Dont get me wrong, when the wheel is working properly, its the best thing ever. But man.... When its not. I HATE THE WHEEL. I did have some issues with the wheel, but it got resolved and now Ima happy camper. Customer service for the wheel really sucks. The company is base in Germany so they have a way of handling their customers. You have no one to talk to, and all communciations are done thru. via email. B/c of the company being so small it may take days until you get a response from someone about what to do with the wheel if an issue occurs...

Lets make this CLEAR.... Buying a wheel DOESNT make you any faster, but you will enjoy the racing experience alot more.

Thanks for the response H1GHD3FF and i'm glad you have sorted it out, what was the problem? was it software that needed to be upgraded or something more technical?

I have a wheel for GT5 and it makes me drive alot more smooth and for me anyway smooth = faster :D

I got an old Microsoft wheel locally off of ebay for under $150 with a second copy of Forza 4. Good deal. Works well enough with cool features other wheels don't have. (Vibration at high revvs that help indicate gear changes)
It has gotten the job done and introduced me to the lobbies, which made me glad i did not pop for an expensive wheel. Recommend a piece of foam with the brake pedal.

Do the CSP's have the brake feedback in 4? With my Turbo S i didn't work in 3 and I dont have the room anymore to set the thing up to use it in 4. I would not bother with anything less than whatever the premium pedals are, since I am pretty sure they are called something else with the CSR wheel.
Also while this is my second Turbo S if you really want to call yourself an enthusiast there is no reason to hesitate to order any of the Fanatec stuff. My original wheel was killed while drifting a ZR1 in FM3 (I'll always remember that day :nervous:) I contacted Customer Support (I had already been in contact about the 🤬 basic pedals not working) and within 10 days was driving again with a new wheel.
