Thank you all once again for help on me learning more about HD knowledge and the monitor of choice (going with the Acer 24'')

Cable time...oh boy

Purpose intended: PS3 to HDMI input on monitor

Purpose intended: From my Ati HD 3850 to my monitor

[I am aware the monitor only has one HDMI input and I don't mind switching between inputs...and I am keeping my old 19'' Dell LCD]

Purpose intended: Using my other free DVI input on my video card, I'd set my other monitor on top of my desk (thus 10 feet cable necessary instead of 6 feet) so I can still use my old monitor for computer stuff if I am using my HD monitor for say my PS3 :)

Let's review...

My current video card

My prospective monitor I will soon purchase for all this (VGA, DVI, HDMI)

And of course...

Are these cables suitable? Is there any other tidbits of info I may need to know? Do you think I'm set to make the HD hop? :)
And once again, thanks to all who have helped me thus far.

You don't really need a HDMI-DVI adapter from Video Card to Monitor because they're basically identical other than HDMI can carry sound. Which won't matter because your DVI output can't, and the monitor doesn't have speakers. DVI-DVI cables are heap cheaper than HDMI cables, so if you're looking to save money you won't be at any disadvantage. However, the HDMI cable is easier to insert and remove, with no need to screw in pins.

Though since the monitor has HDMI and DVI inputs, I'd just leave the computer hooked into DVI and the PS3 to HDMI the whole time. Saves changing cables.

I can't really comment on much, but I will say take a look at monoprice.com for your cables. A 6ft. HDMI is $7.35 (including shipping) vs. $10.98 (again, with shipping) from Newegg.

If I am reading it right...would I be correct by saying if I used the DVI-to-DVI from my video card to HD monitor...it would be the exact same if I used a DVI-to-HDMI?

Exactly. Because:

A) They're almost exactly the same cable, the only difference is HDMI can carry sound.

B) Even if you got a DVI-HDMI cable, your video card has DVI output. So the cable can't change the features/specs of your output source.

Connecting your DVI card via HDMI gives you no benefit, and only causes you to change cables, so really you should just connect via DVI-DVI.

And aww crap I just realized...I wanted to use this for my sound for my PS3. I currently use it for my compy and I don't mind switching the cables.

I do have a box though for the green-black-white inputs to red-white inputs.

Would I be able to still use that even though I am running HDMI to the monitor?

Edited post for speaker specs.

Though I haven't tried it on mine, I'm pretty sure that you can use seperate video/audio outputs on the PS3. Which Logitech speakers are those? If they have an optical input then it's probably best connect those to the PS3 via optical cable. If not, you'll have to just use the Red/White/Yellow RCA cables that come with the PS3, and connect them to the game adapter that comes with those speakers you described above. You can just leave the spare Yellow cord free.

The disadvantage of that obviously is that it won't be 5.1 channel sound, only stereo. However, the Matrix mode on logitech speakers works pretty well in my opinion.
