For ages now, I have B-Specced this endurance race, claiming a free Cr.1,000,000 from B-Spec's efforts every time. But today, I shall give B-Spec a break (because I wuv him so :sly:), and A-Spec it myself.

The competition here is stiff. Vipers and Corvettes like to play here, as does the Motor Sport Elise. So I needed a car that would challenge them. My choice was easy, the only car suitable for this task in my eyes, the NSX-R I entered into TCv3. Unchanged with the exception of S1 tyres. The NSX-R has a good 930.2miles on the clock, so this race will push it past the 1,000miles milestone. With my car ready, I headed off to El Capitan.

The race itself is a 66 lap run of El Capitan. The prize being Cr.250,000, plus the prize car Minolta, which is valued at over Cr.750,000. It was time to meet my opponents.

1st – Mercedes SL 65 AMG (R230) ’04.
2nd – TVR Cerbera Speed Six ‘97
3rd – TVR 350C ‘03
4th – Lotus Motor Sport Elise ‘99
5th – Shelby Series 1 Super Charged ‘03
And finally, at the back of the grid, my Honda NSX Type R ’02.

And the A-Spec points I’d receive if I won? 168 points. Yep, a highly tuned NSX-R will get 168 points against a couple of TVRs and an Elise. Feels like I’m cheating in a way. But points are points, and you can’t argue with that. ;)

I will update this post every lap, noting down interesting things. :)👍

Lap 1 - I got a bad start, I've never driven the NSX-R on S1 tyres so I got some bad wheelspin. I made up the lost ground by the first hairpin, passing the Shelby on the inside. Comming out of the corner I passed both TVRs. I held back behind the Mercedes, I didn't want to get cocky and lose the race on the first lap. But I saw the Elise run off, so I overtook the Mercedes and pursued the Elise. I caught the Elise up going downhill into the right hand hairpin. I didnt dare overtake, instead I played it safe, watching the Elise. Then when we reached the start finish straight, the bugger took off! Does he have NOS? That cant be a stock motor! Laptime was 2'08.253, 1.068 behind the Elise.

Lap 2 - I nearly crashed the NSX-R trying to catch the Elise into the first hairpin, still used to S3s I think. But I didn't crash, and I was right up the Elise's exhaust pipe. I rode his bumper until after the tunnel, where I made my overtaking attempt. Passing on the inside, I thought I might of won this race on lap 2, but the damned Elise rammed me into the side! Causing me to lose my lead. However I caught it up almost instantly, where I continued to chase it until the start finish straight, where yet again, the Elise seems to have some kind of explosion of speed! 1'58.892 was the laptime, only 0.992 behind the Elise. At this point I checked the map, to see everyone else was only just at the final corner.

NSX62.jpg

Lap 3 - A repeat of lap 2, except I didn't attempt a pass. The Elise seems to have random bursts of speed in certain places. I'm keeping it cool, the S1s have warmed up to optimum temperature so I'll try to keep them out of the yellow for as long as I could. I was on the backend of the Elise around the final corner, then it sped off again, outaccelerating my NSX-R. Something fishy is going on here. Laptime was 1'58.471. Only 0.615 behind the Elise.

Lap 4 - Nothing special happened, as usual the Elise is alternating between being stupidly slow and stupidly fast. The urge to ram him is growing, but I'll hold back, I don't need to stress my tyres, or risk losing because I can't keep my urges under control. 1'58.438 this time, 0.508 behind the Elise.

Lap 5 - Despite the Elise's strange driving, and me following, we seem to have left the other 4 AI for dead. As far as I'm concerned, they don't exist now. Same story as before, the Elise just flies down that final straight. Laptime of 1'57.782, only 0.452 behind the Elise.

Lap 6 - WOAH. WOAH. WOAH. A change of pace from the Elise all of a sudden. He's driving harder and faster now, as the laptime of 1'55.015 when I'm behind the Elise by 0.869 will show you. The time for games is over, now we race.

Lap 7 - The Elise has completely changed its personality. It's more of a hot head than me! The Elise manages to clip the wall on entry to the short straight at the very bottom of the map. I brake hard trying not to get caught up in it, but the Elise recovers fast and continues speeding. I manage a pass further down under braking, but the Elise got me back down the straight. Laptime of 1'54.133 and I'm behind by 0.381.

NSX63.jpg

Lap 8 - The Elise is pushing too hard. Twice during the lap it understeered wide, kicking up dirt. First time we both ran into the sand trap, I got too sucked into his driving I think. Laptime of 1'56.120 and I'm behind by 0.523. I shall plan my attack carefully, the Elise is in a weakened state, so I can take my time.

NSX64.jpg

Lap 9 - This lap got pretty intense. Infact so intense I was so concentrated on the Elise I forgot to note the laptime. But I'll say this, we crossed the line side by side. I'll confirm the time when I watch the replay.

Lap 10 - The Elise held me off, nudging past me into the hairpin. However, understeer struck the Elise, and it hit the wall again. Before it recovered, a voice inside my said screamed NOW! I marginally missed the Elise, and screamed past it. Leaving it to get a good view of my arse-end, before I took off. Laptime of 1'54.949, the Elise is behind by 1.499. Now Elise, can you keep up?

NSX65.jpg

Lap 11 - I pushed the NSX-R, HARD. My tyres are beginning to go yellow, but I'd say the Elise is worse off. I managed a 1'51.945, the NSX-R is really putting distance between it and the Elise. The Elise pitted in at the end of the lap, first pitstop in this race. The Elise came out of the pits 30.330 behind. OMFG, there are other people in this race?! The Cerbera pits this lap also, as does the Mercedes.

Lap 12 - My tyres are fading. I've begun slowing a bit, keep the tyres from going orange on me. A laptime of 1'52.825 ends the lap, I'll probably slip down to 1'53s to try and maintain the lead and the tyres. The Elise is too far away to worth mentioning. The TVR 350C pits later on in it's 12th lap.

Lap 13 - Nothing special this lap, although I seem to be gaining on whoever is in 6th place. Also, I nail a 1'51.412 laptime, fastest lap this race, oops.

Lap 14 - Turns out the Mercedes is in 6th. Last time I saw it was 25 minutes ago, wow. Made quick work of him, despite my tyres on the verge of being orange. 1'53.030 is the time. Elise? Might as well go home now. The Shelby pits this lap.

NSX66.jpg

Lap 15 - Nice and peaceful lap, the NSX-R, despite it's tyres is behaving itself. 1'53.661 laptime. Also I'm closing in on 2 cars, I can only assume its the TVRs.

Lap 16 - 2 more cars lapped. They were indeed the TVRs. And imagine my smile as the Cerbera understeered off into the sandtrap, just as I overtook it sideways. Yeah, my NSX-R is slipping a bit, I'll baby the tyres until lap 20, where I think I'll make my stop. Laptime of 1'56.667.

NSX67.jpg

NSX68.jpg

Lap 17 - I couldn't do it. The NSX-R was sliding too much, D1GP style sliding infact. I pitted this lap, meaning the TVRs unlapped themselves. A new set of S1 tyres were fitted, as well as a refuel. Laptime was 2'22.138, slowest lap so far.

NSX69.jpg

Lap 18 - Lapped the Mercedes again. It is really this slow or did it unlap itself like the TVRs? I don't know, the replay will tell me though. Laptime of 1'58.258.

Lap 19 - Caught the dirt and did a 360, oh dear. No harm done though. Laptime of 1'56.431.

Lap 20 - 1'50.946. Didn't mean to, honest.

Lap 21 - Relapped the TVRs. Laptime was 1'48.958. What?! Stop giving me that weird look! :odd:

Lap 22 - Lapped the Shelby, you seen how much rear camber that thing has?! Laptime of 1'50.214. The Elise pits during its 22nd lap.

NSX70.jpg

Lap 23 - Thats one third of the race complete now, 44 minutes into it. Managed a 1'49.525, seems the NSX-R doesn't do "slow". Also, the odometer is reading 998 miles! :D

Lap 24 - The Mercedes takes a pitstop, whatever lap its on. But more importantly... the odometer reads 1000 :D:D:D:D 1'54.774 because I overcooked a corner slightly. The Cerbera has a pitstop here.

Lap 25 - Nothing happened. 1'51.924.

Lap 26 - A mutant bunny jumped out into the middle of the track, and tried to take a swing at my NSX-R. I dodged it's attack, returning the favour with my rear mounted beam cannon. Bye bye bunny. Laptime of 1'50.915. Also the TVR 350C pits.

Lap 27 - Lapped the Mercedes' slow arse. Laptime of 1'50.046.

Lap 28 - Went offroad briefly, no time lost really. Although guess who I'm comming up to lap? Laptime of 1'51.943.

Lap 29 - I lapped the Elise! Bahaha! Well, more like I cruised past whilst it ate dirt. :sly: Laptime of 1'50.958, exactly 2 seconds off my best.

Lap 30 - Shelby pits. I'm in hot pursuit of the TVRs and my tyres are feeling stressed. Laptime of 1'53.402.

Lap 31 - I lap the TVRs, sideways, again. My tyres have another couple of laps in them at the most. 1'55.200.

Lap 32 - Pitstop! The TVRs and the Elise unlap themselves. New tyres and a full tank of fuel bless my NSX-R once more. 2'23.484.

Lap 33 - Nothing happened. 1'59.080. Halfway there!

Lap 34 - Where is everyone? 1'50.201.

Lap 35 - The Elise pits, allowing me to relap it. 1'51.817.

Lap 36 - The Mercedes pits this time, meanwhile I relap the TVRs. 1'50.273.

Lap 37 - My NSX-R has gotten noticably dirtier, tsk tsk. Meanwhile the Speed Six pits in. 1'50.110.

Lap 38 - Got a text from my B-Spec driver. I would answer back but it's illegal to use a phone whilst driving. 1'50.645.

Lap 39 - TVR 350C pits. I lap the Shelby and the Mercedes, but spin out shortly after, unlapping them both. 1'55.403.

Lap 40 - I lap the Shelby and Mercedes, but this time I didn't spin out. Laptime falls well down to 1'49.546.

Lap 41 - I sneakily checked B-Spec's text, he says: "ur winin u cn do it lol". Yes, indeed. Laptime of 1'50.322.

Lap 42 - Kinda bored. 1'51.986.

Lap 43 - I spy with my little eye, something beginning with M. 1'50.436.

[Finished recording replay] :(

Lap 44 - Two thirds of the race down! One third to go! 1'50.656.

Lap 45 - The Shelby pits, and the TVRs are in sight. 1'52.868.

Lap 46 - Our 3rd pitstop, tyres and fuel ahoy! 2'17.793.

Lap 47 - In hot pursuit of the TVRs. Laptime of 1'56.287.

Lap 48 - Mercedes pits this lap. Meanwhile I clock a 1'52.413.

Lap 49 - Speed Six pits just as I lap it. New fastest time of 1'47.782. :D

Lap 50 - I lap the TVR 350C, but then it pits at the end of the lap. 1'50.798.

Lap 51 - Lapped the Mercedes and the Elise. Shame the replay has stopped recording, because I overtook that Elise like this is Initial D or something! 1'50.675.

Lap 52 - Drove like the Devil. 1'48.666.

Lap 53 - The answer to the I spy thing before was "Mountain" by the way. ;) 1'49.069.

Lap 54 - Lapped the Shelby, he seriously needs less rear camber. 1'49.461.

Lap 55 - Did a nice 360 for kicks, yeah. 1'52.245.

Lap 56 - Tyres just going past lime green. 1'50.998.

Lap 57 - My rear right tyre is orange, weird since the rest are just past yellow now. Wait, why are my tyres wearing this quickly? 1'50.327.

Lap 58 - 3 orange tyres and 1 yellow, I'll see how long I can keep the tyres under control, although swapping to S3s now wouldn't hurt for the last few laps. 1'49.133.

*I had to come off the PC for a long while, so I paused GT4 ready for my return. Back now though.*

Lap 59 - The Elise pitted in, and so did I. Since there was only 7 laps left, I didn't refuel and took on a full set of S3 tyres. Psychopath mode turn on. :sly: 2'17.049. The Shelby dived into the pits just as I left.

Lap 60 - The Mercedes pits. Having S3s after so long on S1s feels so good! 1'52.760, and I'm not slowing down! :sly:

Lap 61 - Lapped the Speed Six and the Mercedes at full speed, 1'45.543 smashes the best S1 laptime.

Lap 62 - Lapped the 350C. Then it pitted. 1'47.424.

Lap 63 - Nothing new, still going like a madman. 1'46.193.

Lap 64 - Having the time of my life, tyres are the least of my worries. 1'45.880.

Lap 65 - Lapped the Shelby. 1'47.272.

Lap 66 - Lapped the Elise, then it spun out when it nailed the wall. :sly: 1'50.975.

FINISH! :D

So, results time.

1st - Honda NSX Type R '02 - 2:05'28.200
2nd - Lotus Motor Sport Elise '99 - 2:05'36.186 (doesn't mention it being 3 laps down, wtf?)
3rd - Shelby Series 1 Super Charged '03 - 2:05'38.707 (at least 4 laps down?)
4th - TVR 350C '03 - --'--.---
5th - TVR Cerbera Speed Six '97 - --'--.---
6th - Mercedes SL 65 AMG (R230) '04 - --'--.---

So I'm Cr.250,000 richer and I have another Minolta.

So thats it, its over. I'll come back with pictures and some trivia.

Trivia:
-My NSX-R needs a chassis refresh ASAP.
-Since the starting mileage was 930.2miles, and now it has 1124.8miles, its safe to say I covered a good 194.6miles. It should be the El Capitan 195miles!
-The Mutant Bunny IS NOT REAL.
-The laptime for lap 9 is 1'55.405.
-The Mercedes did indeed unlap itself on lap 18.

Great report and good pictures VTiRoj! 3 laps winning margin, wow!
I believe you'd be more than capable of stripping that NSX back down to it's stock form, although unfortunately you can't reverse the weight reductions, and should be able to win for 200 A-spec points!
Alternatively buy another brand new '02 NSX-R and head back to El Capitan to claim those remaining points! It sure sounds as though you'd relish the challenge! Let us know if you decide to attempt it, as a stock 200 point win would make you eligible for the CLUB 200 list in this thread. 👍

I didnt even expect to get a 3 lap lead myself. I thought for sure I'd be fighting until the end. :)

I claimed the remaining points in a mildly tuned S2000 (probably posting that tomorrow) earlier today, still won by 1 lap. :sly:

But to get on that CLUB200 list would be an honour! I accept the challenge! :D:tup:

It is indeed! Just make sure to read the rules in post #1 carefully. An oil change is the limit of the modifications you can make to the car, no wings, ballast or add-ons to be used. You can use S1, S2 or S3 tyres on a road car, but S2s on that NSX-R in stock form should make this a walk in the park! (A very pretty National Park at that! :P)
I'd also suggest lineup 7, (I think it's 7, although it could be 6 or 8!) which has the following cars on the grid, although I forget in which order they start, this is the order they finish in: Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport (C4) '96, TVR Cerbera Speed Six '97, Dodge Viper GTS '99, Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG (R230) '04, Aston Martin V8 Vantage '99. :D

Look forward to welcoming a new member to our list soon. ;)

Yeah, this race actually isn't as competitive as the points would lead you to believe (at least in an NSX). I ran the race most recently in a stock NSX Type R '02 on S2's, oil change, no ballast, for 196 points and won handily. The only car to give me fits was an Esprit Sport 350 (due to its interminably LOOOOooooong lasting tires), but it was still about a half-minute behind at the finish line of lap 66. I imagine without an oil change, with about 20kg of ballast, or on S1's, this race would have been an easy 200pts for me.

Sounds like a fun run, even ignoring the disparity between your car and the competition:tup:

I don't know if it was actually "weak," per se. The lineup I had was the Esprit Sport, Callaway C12, Aston DB9 (I think...), a Viper and some other car like a MB CLK55 or something. All of the cars out-horsepowered the NSX quite well, but none were as light or nimble as the Honda I selected.

Of course, as far as this circuit is concerned, I have no concept of what constitutes a "weak" or "strong" lineup...

Usually anything with the Elise is strong, since the Elise is the best AI car in this race. Weak lineup is anything without the Elise.

I have to say though, you cant judge a NSX by its horsepower, it uses its 280bhp better than most big cars use 400 or 500. :sly:

i couldn't agree more.., this car feels like it has more horsepower than it usually has, that's why it is so fast.., this car can beat JGTC and DTM cars if fully tuned, and a stock R34 doesn't stand a chance against a stock NSX-R..,this car is truly, not only Honda's, but Japan's supercar.., Type R rules!!
