Lately Talentless and I have been battling it out around Grand Valley Two in a fast lap competition. We’ve so far pushed beyond the 1’56 range well into the 1’55 range.

Current fast lap is 1’55.551.

Buy and NSX-Type R, give it:

oil change
sports suspension
engine balancing
port polish
ROM chip
sports exhaust
racing gear box
triple clutch
racing flywheel
weight reduction 1 and 2
t5 tires

The only stipulation is that you can’t touch the Final Drive number. The auto setting is open for adjustment.

Man, you're not going to believe this but it took me 5 minutes to remember my own username! Lol, for some reason, when I start up my computer, I get a message asking if I want to start in safe mode. I choose normal mode, but the screen layout looks reminiscent of safe mode, and I can't print anything. Luckily, I know its not actually safe mode because I still have online access. For some reason (and i think it is related to the computer acting as if it is in safe mode), when I come to this site I'm not automatically logged in, as I normally am. Thus when I was ready to post my time, I was prompted to login and realized I had forgotten my username.

But on down to the matters at hand. After 6 laps, I got a time of 1'55.313. I tend not to modify transmission settings, except for when absolutely necessary, because of one test I ran with the Mazda RX-8 at Midfield some time ago (it had been tuned significantly with a power outpit of, I would say, close to max). It would seem to make sense to use a close-ratio transmission with the RX-8, considering how it gets its max hp at high revs. However, when I did my testing (I used a sport transmission as opposed to the stock transmission, which has wide gears) I noticed that while the closer ratios allowed it to accelarate better, the task of shifting gears more often interfered with the momentum. Also, being in higher gears through the turns seemed to cause it to not be able to turn quite as sharply as you would normally be able to in a lower gear (I could be wrong about that, however.) Overall, there seemed to be more potential in the stock transmission.

NIce run. Shaved another 2/10ths off my time. Having raced against you on another challenge, I'll take your word for it.

My follow up question is, do you have the ability (read: sharkport) to load the replay up for review? I'd be interested in seeing where the time was gained. I'm always looking for another replay to learn from.

Let's see if this works...

Here's the zip file of my 1'55.551 run.

Unfortunately, I don't have a sharkport. I'd love to have one so I could share my replays of my best laps with people on here, but I really don't have the kind of money to invest in one, which is the same reason why I've never had a gameshark (I prioritize games over accessories). About how much are they? I'm assuming upwards of $30 but I'm probably wrong.

$30-$40 would cover the cost of a sharkport. One thing to keep in mind, it'd not just for GT3. It works for every game. I've got loads of old "Twisted Metal: Black" and "Midnight Run" saved to my computer. It is one of the best investments you'll make.

A note of consequence, your computer needs to be fairly close (10') to the PS@, as you connect one to the other.
