Odd lineups

Hail Earl of SuperNoob!
I too have been puzzled by this seeming incongruity. Although, it is indeed gratifying to lap this bowtie emblazoned cur several times in some of the longer contests. I personally believe that it serves as a kind of rolling speed bump, designed to create a traffic jam to keep the other racers close on some of the more twisty courses. As they say, "I would rather push my Ford than drive your Chevy!"
Just a random musing.

There's no real reason, just like there's no reason to stick a Ford GT in a race with regular roadcars. Instead of the Camaro, you may meet the Panoz Esperante, Corvette C5R, or Ford GT - they're backmarkers, included in the Prototype fields for no apparent reason...

I was wondering the same exact thing... :banghead: I want REAL competition, not bulls:censored: competition. Why put an average LM race car against 700HP+ monsters??!!?! What a weep... :grumpy:

EDIT: Especially the RAM 1500 against my damn Fiat 500 or Subaru 360. :( I didn't even set difficulty at 10.

Bro, you're so right! Some one screwed up big time putting a friggin Dodge Ram in some of those slower family cups  Nowadays I always reset the race but at first I would accidentally start racing and see this dot on the map so far ahead of everyone :ouch:

Speaking of trucks...I was doing the Hot Rod competition and there's usually a couple of trucks rolling against the usual sports cars  The only purpose they serve it seems is to slow you down as you try to get around them!

When you get a chance, watch a real Le Mans race some time. They are filled with multiple class cars, like P1, P2, GT1, GT2. It is part of what makes Le Mans racing so interesting.

In addition, just like a real Le Mans race your not really competing against the whole field, just your class. Yes, there's the overall victory, but you do not have to be so worried about winning the whole race, just your class. By PD including GT class cars, it allows those that are not so hung up about winning every race, to also select a GT car and race along with the LMP cars, but battle with the other GT cars.

Besides, you may not realize this, but PD allows you to change the lineup of AI cars by simply not starting the race, back out of the menu and select the race again. Keep doing that until you have a field of AI cars you want to compete against.

Didnt know that last part...thanks alot for that:tup: 👍

The most recent "odd field" I have had was in the Real Circuit tours. There was me in my Speed 8, an R92CP, a Minolta and three LM cars, probably the Mclaren, a GT and maybe a Camaro.

I also believe that if you have five cars that you can beat with relative ease, you will get more A-spec points than if you have one car that is impossible to beat and five that you will lap every three laps.

Doesn't that last part affect the win/lose ratio?

Yes it does but if you care about 100% win ratio, you don't care about the line-up. It seems there is a connection between days and car line-up as well. Try it out, there is always a basic line-up from when you continue the game but if you go and buy a set of wheels, the line-up changes so that has to mean that there is a connection between days and line-up. I don't know if anybody else has gotten the same effect though, my friend told me it didn't work...But anyway, try out some different methods to change the line-up without having to exit and re-enter it the whole time, like for example doing a simple race like beginner hall, 2 lapper with an overkill car, done very quickly and changes the car line-up 👍

No.

If you leave a race before you start, then there is no loss, thus no change in win/loss percentage - nor does the day change. This method is also how you can "preview" a race without adding a day, which is what happens when you really preview a race.

I'm not the kind of gamer that resets his PS2 when he loses ;)

But i do want it to be high off course :)

No.

I did know about previewing a race but not that you can exit one without any consequences, thx :)

Just to be clear, you do not have to do that. Just select the race as if you are going to race. This will show you the lineup of AI cars. If you do not want it simply quit the race instead of selecting "start", and you'll go back to the menu of race selections. This won’t add a day to your game, and if you select that same race again you'll get a different line up.

If you are interested in knowing more about what are all the possible AI cars for a race, and different lineups, and how they perform, I've made a few "Ranking & Data" reports on the AI for specific series, mostly on enduro LM races. They can be found in my "Lists/Info Links" thread, which is part of the FAQ sticky thread, but here is a direct link:

Really? Hmm, so I was wrong. But it does change once entered, right?

Yes. The only time an AI field will not change is if you don't go back to the menu where you choose which race you want to enter, or preview. So if after a race you decide to race again, or if during a race you decide to restart the race, you'll get the exact same lineup.

Its still a pain, i would like to see more realistic opponent or (for arcade only obviously) being able to pick your own field choice, it really annoys me in arcade when you try to have a GT300 race and I just end up with a load of 80's rally cars, which are cool opponents but not when I am in my Nissan C-west Razo silvia
