Off Roading

Wouldn't it be soo cool to have a number of off roading courses. Just imagine driving an old short wheel base Land Rover defender up the side of a mountain or taking the New(2007) BMW X5 round an off road course in the boggy mud of Wales. There could even be a Type of mode with harder and harder off road courses a bit like the licenses but in more of a championship mode. They could even have an off road endurance race like the Paris Dakar or the Land Rover G3 Challenge were you might have to look after the car to stop it getting punctures, drive slower to stop the engine over heating and watch out for animals so you dont break the front radiator.

Also Hill Climb Mode where you have to drive a Hill Climb car round a tight hill climb course without hitting and sliding into tree's and course markers. It would be the same thing as the Off Roading courses where the stages get harder and harder.

What do you think of off roading then?

Free roam off road would be cool....and it's not like free roam round streets (where you get people complaining about street race issues)

Free Roam on Gran Turismo = NoNo.

Proper rally stages would be good, and maybe other off road events, but not free roam off roading.

I think it should have hill climbs but not like Pikes Peak hill climb it would be a more drastic hill climb that would require a 4x4 like a jeep or an old Land Cruiser.

I'm not suggesting free roam as half the english country side to mess about on with country roads, houses, traffic and such. More so a big field (similar to that of the Driving Park cone part, but obviously much larger) with many offroading obstacles just to mess about on? What's so bad about that?

Can we not have fun on something other then tracks for once?

I mean nothing wrong with having a bit of fun, instead of being forced around the same old tracks for the 100th time with or without opponents

That would be pretty cool.👍 Maybe take the test course and use the infield for the off-road area. That would make for hours of fun. It would need some obstacles that are near impossible though so it wouldn't get boring.

Condiring GT4 included 3 Paris-Dakar Trucks, the 2 Pajeros and the RSC Rally Raid, we should be given some rough 4 wheeling course if GT5 is to include any more of these vehicles. It may not have to be a free roam, but at least some type of course that is too rough for regular rally cars.

I like the idea of the infeild of test course. I would like to have quads, buggies, tanks ect like top gear did a while back so you can just muck around all day long. what would be also be good is if you could make your own course so you could chose to have steep climbs here and water splashes there. It would also be great in ployphony could make it so if you go keep driving over the same part of grass it gets muddier and more rutted.
:)

If you ever go to off road park they sometimes have a big mud pit to see who's car can't handel mud. If gt5 has off roading they have to have a mud pit.

Sure sounds cool to do off roading thats more rugged than rally races. My brother built seven mud running trucks, maybe they should have mud runs. I wouldn't mind going jeepin' though. They should on the game make a place to go jeepin' out west, like in Silver Town, Colorado. Were you can do a little rock crawling and no matter what they can't keep you on the track so you have more freedom.:)

i really like this idea. truthfully, gt is mostly about track racing, so the rugged offroad tracks fit perfectly fine into the sceme of the game. your still gunning for lap times, your just doing it in much more extreme conditions. as far as the serious off road stuff like obstacle courses and rock climbs where the object is not how fast, but rather IF you make it, i dont see those types of things as belonging in a gt game. as far as full out free roam, with no goal at all, i dont see that being in a gt game either. That being said, i would be happy to see free roam, off road and on.

And they sometimes throw some logs in it to complicate things. :P

A good candidate for some off road events would be Moab. I'd like to see some trails through forests and such too.

3-Wheel Drive
Moab would be awesome. You could even get bonus points for running over mountain bikers!

Please, tell me you're joking, right. 'cuz it's not G.T.A.-Off Road or anything, It's Gran Turismo.

What part of "Racing Simulation" makes people think that Free Roam should be allowed? I don't see JGTC racers taking shortcuts through the infield. I also can't find one example of an F1 Pole racer trying to drive on the grass/sand. This idea should be left for either the Test Drive series, or 4x4 Evolution.

i think off roading would be cool if it was like those small 4x4's that go up almost vertical hills and the lisence for all these could be held and the final test could be a huge mountain where there is no set track and you have to get to the top before the time runs out

However, "The Real Driving Simulator" implies that it should be allowed.

And I suppose that isn't racing either, because there aren't walls on both sides, there aren't JGTC cars, there is no infield, and no F1 cars.

Also, PD can give us something Test Drive and Evo lack - physics.

yeah, maybe they could add some of these too.:sly:

Nah, leave all the motorcycles for TT2. Although the T-Rex would definitely be welcome in GT5 (technically its a motorcycle as it is licensed as one, but it would go by the same physics as cars). It is only registered as a bike so they don't have to have airbags, other safety equipment, or be crash tested.

There have been a lot of really good ideas in here.👍

I was just curious though. Do you think this actually has a chance of being a reality? I for one, think it's reasonable to have off roading in the game. I've seen many people say that Kaz wants the games to be a history of the automobile (hence the cars from 18??). If that's the case than off road vehicles including trucks, suvs, and other off-road vehicles have a valid place in this game.

With that said, the question becomes, what would we be able to do with these vehicles? Well the first thing that comes to mind is just drive them on the rally courses. The problem with that is, the vehicles like trucks and suv's really aren't suited for this. They are made to tackle very rough and treacherous terrain, that with a rally car would be impossible. There could be tracks with steep climbs, off-camber areas where if taken to fast would flip the vehicle, and more obstacles like this. Now these races are kind of different. I believe it would not be a question of how fast, but can you make it in one piece.:nervous:

The idea of free roam has also come up. And of course it has been met with a very mixed response. I for one think that with the off road vehicles free roam is a good idea. I do however, understand the opposition. I realize that GT has never had a free roam, and people are afraid that it will turn into an arcade style game instead of the simulation that we all love. After reading through the ideas for free roam locations, I still feel that idea of the infield of the test course being the "Off-Road Park" (hehe I like that name, sounds legit) where a number of obstacle are set up so that drivers can attack them at will. Points should be given for clearing an obstacle such as a steep rutted hill without getting stuck. It would probably be a good idea for this to be timed so that it would be some kind of competition and an option for an untimed practice session to just go out there and have fun.:P

With a system such as this many people could have fun with vehicle they own like Jeeps, Landcruisers, and all other off-road purpose vehicles. I realize there are other games that fill this request like test-drive and evo, but like someone here stated what would be nice is some realism.

Thanks for listening,
