More pics (now might be a good time to look away):

My question is: Do they actually plan to sell this? I actually thought Audi was moving in a great stying direction. Looks like the four rings will go the way of the Ms after seeing the new M3.:guilty: (at least in my view). They were quickly becoming my favorite styled German company but I think that just went out the window.👎

The interior does look nice, though. After all, you don't spend your time looking at the car rather than out of it. Bring on the next styling update for the A5!

Anyone have any more info on this car? 4.2L V8 is about all I've heard and I'm not even sure if that's right.

BTW, this car is very sexy. This could very well be my next car.

Sage, I'm gonna smack your face.

Now keep in mind that I never make a final judgement on a car until I have seen it in the 'metal', thanks to Alfa murdering the Brera; but when I saw the first picture that Sage posted up..

..the swage line running from the front headlamp to the rear just struck me as being rather similar to previous gen Hyundai Coupe (and now I look closer the lower swage on the side is quite similar as well).

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that the A5 looks like the Coupe, just that for that swage the first thing that pop'd into my mind was the Hyundai, hopefully its just the angle of that picture.

Overall I don't mind the exterior of the car, its not ground-breaking, but its certainly not offensive. I actually have more of an issue with the interior, Audi cabins have always impressed me with the layout and that looks a little cluttered and busy to me.

I like a "busy" looking interior. Makes me feel like I'm in the cockpit of an airplane.
Sage hates busy interiors. Sage hates my current car.

I like it looks good in my opinion. Does any one know if there will be a RS5 like the rs4?

It's quite a 'safe' design isn't it. Pleasant enough, but it hardly stands out does it. I guess that's what Audi was aiming for. I'd like to see them produce a successor to the 'big Q' Quattro from it. The S6's V10 would be an ideal replacement for the old straight 5. 👍

- i can dream i suppose.

i agree, it's not ugly, but it's not groundbreaking either. It's just a nice car. I'm sure it will perform well. I'm with Scaff on the interior, that doesn't impress me that much, the centere consold design wise specifically. I'm sure the quality is where you'd expect it to be, it's just not been designed as well as I have seen imo.

S5 and RS5 will be produced.

S5 will come with the 4.2 V8 with 390hp according to my sources.

This car is meant to be the modern version of the audi URquattro, and the audi S2.

This is the first audi car to use its next gen chassis.

It compete more with the CLK than the 3 series, or 6 series. Its sized between the 3 and 6, and also priced the same.

S5 pictures:

I like it. The strong shoulder line actually reminds me of a big American coupe from the early 70s. It looks powerful and muscular but retains a certain sense of grace with the flowing lines. I like the rear treatment as well.

I agree it breaks no new ground. Just a tasteful adaptation of some classic themes.

Bangle bashers: take note of concave/convex surfacing of the door panel.

Interior observation: the center console design reminds me strongly of the BMW E36 (I realize it is based on the current A6 cockpit). This is a good thing.

So does this compete with the 3-series or the 6-series?

I'm fairly certain it is a 3er competitor, since it will share it's platform with the next A4.

Also present on that Hyundai Tiburon, the only other car with a photo in this thread, which pre-dates all of Bangle's BMW designs. I like how every single car with a hint of something Chris Bangle did is now being shown off as if Bangle started design trends. I guess BMW fanboys just have to sleep at night (not that you're a BMW fanboy, but the idea is the same).

It will share its platform with the A4 like how it will also share its platform across the rest of the audi range.

The chassis underneath the A5 was designed to be used for nearly every new audi that will come after the A5.

Oooh. A Passat coupé. Just what nobody always wanted.

As far as I'm concerned, Chris Bangle does start design trends. He didn't INVENT much of elements that goes into his style, but he certainly did combine them into something uniquely his own. The distinctive "Bangle butt" isn't even something he created, but yet the entire automotive press "credits" him with its ugliness.

To use a music analogy, Eddie Van Halen was not the first guitar player to use a two-handed tap technique, but he certainly did make the particular form his own and raised awareness of the style and indeed spawn a legion of imitators.

Oh and try not have a hemorrhage over the analogy okay? I'm not saying Bangle is the Van Halen of auto design. Just that he took bits and pieces of styles that already existed and created something different.

..and the typical BMW fanboy HATES Bangle. I dunno what the hell you're talking about with them sleeping at night because other designers imitate him.. they'd all sleep better if he was locked in a prison somewhere and never let near another BMW again.

And I see that Audi is doing nothing to repair the "squinty eyes - giant whalemouth" look of recent models.

Proportion is dead.

I would have liked this car to be sportier, but looking closely at the pics I can see what audi went for. It wasnt sporty, but rather more elegance, reserved look. The car has a wide stance, and I can see plenty of business men buying the car. This car is more of a worry for mercedes, than BMW.

Nice pic, short overhang.

In Europe we have the Peugeot 407:

With that to compete against, nothing looks whalemouthed.

And to think the 407 coupe replaced on the best looking car ever.

Indeed. That's what Peugeot get for thinking that their own in house designers are better than Pininfarina's. :dunce:

EDIT: That pic above has a hint of 406 coupe in the C pillar.

I like the 407 coupe, prefer the 406 coupe to it though.
From the front wheels back, the 407 Coupe is a decent looking car. It has a really hard act to follow though.

I agree, now that Ive seen the XK pictured directly below. The boot spoiler, and the rear shoulderline immedialtely above the rear tyre is what gave me the thought.
