Oil Change

I have been a GT player since GT3 so im not really long. But I was wondering about how many miles do you change oil in a car on GT4? I have looked but not found anything on it I did type oil on search and nothing came up so I thought I would post it. Thanks to anyone that wants to help me

I ran Sarthe II 24hr Enduro in A-spec. 👍
The oil light on my Audi R8 finally came on in the 23rd hour after 3489 miles!
The oil in GT4 has a longer life than GT3 so it seems.
Having said that, in a road car it may be different, since I changed oil on a used '73 Skyline to run in PD Cup. It brought HP level back up to a level equivalent to the to the brand new engine minus the worn engine loss.
After less than 300 miles HP loss was noticable, although the oil light didn't come on. :boggled:

It's like every 900 Miles or so, I've tried it before and by 900 miles the oil bar was very dark. But i think every car is different, and some will loose HP quicker than others (I'm talking about permanently), there are many thrreads about the mileage and oil effects I'm sure of that. TRy to narrow your search to "HP loss" or "Mileage effects on Power" also try "ride the lightning"

Sorry I can't be too specific about this..is just that I haven't played for a while. But i'm sure that you have to change the oil every 700 - 800 miles if you don't want to lose power permanently.

Ciao!

I change oil a lot.
The first time I drive a car (after the virgin oil change), I check the amount of hp in the garage. If at any point in the future it lost hp I do an oil change. The oil loooks still fine at that point, but the change recovers lost hps.
When I stop driving a car (after a series or something) I usually do an oil change too, so my cars always have fresh oil.
Remember that cars in GT4 can lose hps fairly quickly, both to slightly worse oil and to 'redlining damage' (read the thread on it here)

I like the creativity of PD but it wouldve been better if they wrote about the power loss or refine the oil light so that the powerloss would be more predictible instead of guessing. Also, f1 cars can lose power but you cant change the oil. That must be from the mileage of the car.

^^ The F1 is an PD Special Car so nothing really happens to it besides tire wear and increasing it's mileage.

Anywho, the oil change in GT4 gives you like 10+hp(correct me if I'm wrong). As someone mentioned, the oil in GT4 has a longer life span. Does anyone know what type of oil is in GT4 that gives new cars, not sure about used cars, 10+hp. The other oil I know that is really good and can probably match up to that is Royal Purple...?

I change it after every race event or every fun session just to make sure I wont forget it and I dont have to do it next time.
HP loss can wait!

Same with the car wash.:sly:

Sorry if this is wrong but...

IS the power for a car basically...

************************************************
Base Power x Engine Abuse (90-100%) x Oil Freshness (95-105%)
************************************************

?? (End of question!- Actual figures/percenage ranges are just rough numbers.)

So a 100BHP engine with no engine abuse but fresh oil can get a "boost" to say 105bhp
but on used oil the car will only be at say 95bhp if you have been nice to the red line of the car?

Fresh oil doesn't mean much unless you absolutely must have the most HP to make some record run. Otherwise, there isn't really any race in GT4 that requires max HP to win. In a long series of races, even the AI cars seem to get sluggish at the end so everything is equalized.

All the 200 point races are best done with as dirty oil as possible.

Oil wear varies from car to car and gearing and redline abuse. Change it or leave it. It really doesn't matter.

the power increase from oil change is about 5-10%, depending of the aspiration and displacement. and power loss starts around 150-250 miles.

It is not a fixed increase, but is a percentage (5%) of the HP as shown in the garage. So while a new car like the Daihatsu Storia X4 only gets 6 HP increase with a replacement oil change, a car like the Gillet Vertigo will get 45 HP with replacement oil change.

I'm fairly certain the increase in HP when you replace the oil for newly acquired cars, excluding used cars of course because they come with old oil, is 5% (average is ~4.75% to be precise). There are no new cars that I am aware of that get a 6% or greater boost, or less than 4% boost from a new oil change.

Now a used car, or a car that's been driven for a while and has bad oil will obviously get a larger boost in HP with an oil change, but that is because it has old oil. The net increase should still be only 5% when compared to the HP with original new oil.

On the TVR Cerbera Speed 12 fresh oil hikes the power up from 800bhp to 850bhp, yet some people still insist on throwing a supercharger on there too . That by the way is just over a 6% boost in power.

It would be if the Speed 12 had 800 HP listed in the garage prior to new oil.... but it actually has 809... making the increase a 4.8% jump. You may be confusing the 800 HP by the dealer specs that list it as 799 HP, or the 798 HP listed in the specs in your garage, but if you are going by that figure, then the Speed 12 only ends up with 838 HP and not 850.

In either case, 798 -> 838 or 809 -> 850, both are a 5% increase.

The Alfa Guila Sprint GTA has something like a 13% difference from used with old oil to like new with new oil, or around 7.5% each way.
Leonidae
and power loss starts around 150-250 miles.
Only if you leave the old oil in the car. If you change it constantly everytime there is a BHP discrepency it can go quite a bit longer before wear takes place.

Thx for all of your help everyone. I will try to look in to the oil change mileage, I was just thinking the other day when i was racing. Thanks again.

Which is exactly what I said. And the net difference between the Giulia's stock HP of 115, and its post oil change HP of 121 is.... 5%. :)

Thus, the net increase is only 5% when compared to the HP with original new oil.

Fair enough, and all of thoes figures are less that it is in real life.

that's exactly what I've done, but sooner or later, the engine wear is inevitable.

has anyone else noticed, that the drop is usually around 1-3hp in the beginning or such?

Hey D-N, do you have a list of your lists? ( Is it stickied? ) If not, why? If so, sorry I musta missed it.
Here you go:
It is stickied by association. The link is located in the following very useful sticky thread:
Another very useful tool for finding specific threads (a tool I use regularly) is the "Find all threads started by ________" option. It is located in each member's profile page, which you get by clicking on a member's name and selecting "View Public Profile", or by right clicking on their name, and selecting "Open in New Window".

When looking at a member's profile, you'll see a heading that says "Forum Info", and under that you'll see two search options:
