Ok so i've been browsing GTPlanet's forums and things go back and forth between Ricers and Rodders (Japan vs. USA). You know 4 bangers are better in corners... V8s are faster... blah blah blah blah blah. Well take these for example (and i'll make it fair.), A Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4, a Ford Mustang Cobra, and a Volvo (yes a Volvo) V60R. What would happen? Try comparing all regions PLEASE in our arguments in this thread, meaning

AMERICAN vs. EUROPEAN vs. JAPANESE

Ready Break!:mischievous:

I go for the volvo, but actually this ain't a fair compare. The volvo can never really have the specs and the achievements a real sportscar has...............why don't you compare it to a PORSCHE, that's TOP EURO ENGINEERING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

porsche.gif

On track? The 3000GT (probably). Which would I rather own? The Mustang. Which would I rather run? The Volvo...

Oh dear...

They all have their perks, and their own thing that makes them unique as a whole and appealing. High revs, tight cornering for the japanese. Loud defening roars from the americans. Sleek, smooth, and sexy from the europeans.

Hmm. I just read the first post. (i posted right after i did the poll). The volve definitely for me. But as a whole, all those cars are awesome still.

Ok you've got the 3000GT VR4, with over what is it 250bhp twin turbo 3.5 litre V6, all wheel drive, 3500lbs to 3700lbs.(a nasty ricer is what it is). Then you have the Mustang GT Cobra, with over 270bhp Quad cam V8 I believe, front engine rear drive classic configuration, about the same weight.(Good ol' Detriot is all I can say). Ah and then you have the UNDERESTIMATED Volvo S60R, with 300bhp twin turbo 5 banger, all wheel drive, weighing in at the same class. All very well rounded Makes/Models either could win what I'm asking is which do you motorheads prefer?

Ground Pounding Muscle, Rice Burning Technology, or an Elegant Swed?:banghead: damn decisions

i like european and japanese, but i voted japanese for their superb technology. no offense to muscle car lovers, but i hate muscle of any kind. too loud anyway. i do like european cars alot though(lancia is italian)for their creative cars.

Um, I'd rather have the VR4. Its a quick car, pretty nice looking too. I like the Volvo and the Mustang, but I'd take the Mistubishi. And it's not rice, its a fast stock japanese car.

For more practical everyday reasons. I would choose the Volvo. But if we aren't thinking practical and we're talkinga bout the car I WOULD RATHER HAVE over any other car, would be the Cobra. :)

PS- the Cobra actually has 390 bhp..

if only there was a car with thumping V8 muscle, controled by japanese technology, with a stylish euro body. I think that every counrty has their own specialty, anyone agree?

If someone offered a car to me, I'll definitely get the Mitsu.

What car to chose is also a matter of practical needs. Who wants a Mustang if he's got say 2 small kids. They are never going to have enough room.

I love how many people think american v8s are just loud-ass things. its so stupid. the 32 valve V8 on the mustang is pretty high revving acttually. I think it would be in the mitsus same league. that engine in particular is not the tipycal pushrod engine that has been known to american "muscle cars" for years. its actually pretty high tech, a marvelous engine if you ask me. its tech can be compared to any euro or Japanese car and it wouldnt be ashamed. yeah, it lacks class and quality in its interior, in its fit and finish, but the engineering is really good. ford is getting off its fame as a crap maker. the chassis shows its age, however. its some refurbishing of the fox platform of years ago. (is it? or is it on the new lincoln platform? well, if it is, more to my favor) so, the modern "muscle" cars of detroit arent that "motor is everything" any more. even its suspension is pretty good. not as in the gizmo-shod 3000gt, nor the 4-wheel-drive Volvo, but they arent the turnless bricks of yesteryear either. they can turn pretty good. so, I love to hear how people marvel at all the technology on Japanese cars and the refinement of euros, but cant marvel at a very, very decent product made in the usa, for a damned fraction of the price. yeah, its cheaper, but its in the very same league. can anyone 'sides me respect what detroit is doing? fast, good, quality cars... at least quality for what they cost.

Cano

and... I'd have the cobra... heh
then the volvo. and I dont have anything against Japanese cars... but I DONT LIKE AND NEVER LIKED THAT MITSU.

Well said man.

I cant really Decide. This world is full of great great cars. Vipers, M5's, NSX's, 911 GT2's, Shelby GT 350R's. Each car is marvelous in its own right. From the enpecible handling of Japanese cars, to the Awe-inspiring styling and engenuity of European cars, to the raw American Muscle of yester-year and today. They are all good.

As for the Beauty and the Beast. I would take the Beast. This reffers to Old and New Cars. Beauty, would be cars of today. Sleek lines, sharp edges, slim in all the right places and very fast. Beast, would be Muscle of yester-year with monsterous engines and pure power. I like it all. Whether its American Muscle, Japanese Muscle, or Euro-Muscle, its all good. Therefore, the question is not what country you would choose to who has the best car, but what would you want in a car, to make it the best.

Im really tired of all this ****ing BS that people make up and exaggerate about a country's cars sometimes. "Yo , AmErIcAn cArS aRe HeAvY aNd cAnT tUrN", "OOOHHHH, Japanese cars are all FF and dont have enough liter's". This is so retarded. There are too many 14 year old trying to figure out who has the best cars and they start saying things about cars they probably havent even been withen 100 meters of. Look at the good points of a car, not just the bad...

well. Im with this dude here. Id also got any old car. no new stuff for me, please. Im just a little sick of it. Id rather have a really cool muscle car (no, not the typical mustang, camaro, charger, anything like that. Id love to have a GTX, or a road runner. Even some Nova II. hehe, my dream car is the sleeper project I have for the Ford Fairmont wagon. go figure. yes, Im weird), be it from america or europe. japan had some, too, but they are not that appealing. you know what I'd love to have? a Monteverdi Hai!!! a 60's italian sports car. mid engine rear wheel placement. sort of like a detomaso pantera (that one would be an ass kiking car for mee too), even sharing the american power part too. but the monteverdi had a 426 HEMI. oh, damn YEEEAH. HEMI power and mid engine placement. no nose-heavy thing. this thing would really rock. I dont think that any Ferrari of the era, any lambo, any WHATEVER could do shade to this car. think about it. the Ferraris were f-r. and they had 100 horses less :), not to mention the lambos, wich started, then quit, because of the unrefinement of an upstarting company. let alone anything america was doing at that time. at that time, japan didnt even existed on that playing field. So, from that era, the monteverdi Hai is just the ideal muscle car. European styling and engineering (not so marvelous, it was a small company), good engine placement... and, omg, a HEMI behind you. can you imagine the sound of the thing? you could hear EVERY SOUND the monster barks. just imagine the experience, driving one of this things to the redline, gearing to third, then dropping it to second to take that turn and feel how it slides soooooftly into the curve, because you have the engine behind you. then clutching and gering again and going out of the curve flat-out flying because of the excessive torque of the engine, and how the extra weight over the rear tires (the engine)make it bite quickly. oh, my god.

As palm said, you have to look for what is best on the cars, and find a combo that suits you. you just dont want stupid all-motor things. nor you want a car that can pull 3 Gs but wotn haul. and I think no one here would buy a car because "its pretty". If I know GTP well (at least the part that is worth it... lets get off the 90% of ricers and 14 year olders that compund it) we are all fans of well engineered, fast and dependable cars. be it from japan, america, europe, australia, or everywhere else. the choice is from everyone... everyone has their own concept for what's ideal. if you cant find a car that suits it all... then build it. but Im sure that anybody's ideal car is out there, waiting to be discovered... or built :)

Cano

just dont make a drifter out of it, please. nor a dragster... even less a show car -___-
engineering, people. ineguity. something that makes a car worthy. something that makes an ACTUAL car.

heh... now that I think of it... I think that anybody's ideal car in here would be a hybrid of these three groups. muscle, sleekness and dependability, and killing turning. "you want a race car?" "no, I really want just a street car that kicks ass :D"

I'd hold an awards ceremony and give you and award but I dont have the venue .

Really well said Cano. I couldnt have said it better my self (or even close to it) 👍...

hahaa, the only reward I want from you is the photo of you sitting in your gradpa's superbird wing :D

Cano

still nothing about them? o.o
and, hehe, thanks :P

My friends are all obsessed with Starlets at the moment.

I wish I was a rich bastard, I would buy a Shelby Cobra kitset, build it up, drive it to school and drop one mean as burnout right infront of my friends in their Starlets.

Im working on that :). We are looking through all the albums searching for the picture. I dont know why my dad doesnt just go out and get a Digital Camera. Geez, he has the money. Hey, I have the money (well, Im saving it for other things). I dont know why, he just doesnt like them much. Still thinks they have low quality I guess...

In a 15-year bloom, before tightening emission regulations and rocketing gasoline prices stamped "extinct" on an entire breed of cars in the early '70s, Americas automobile industry produced the most memorable cars ever built anywhere, anytime: "The American Muscle Car." While today's modern computer-controlled squeaky clean cars may approach the performance numbers put up 35 years ago, they will never duplicate the rush generated by 400-plus cubic inches fighting for traction through period bias-ply tires. Pity todays car enthusiast who think variable valve timing is the hot set-up.

It's all based on opinion...I'm pretty sure that when I'm old people will think of imports the same way many people think of domestics today...some will like em others will think they are old peices or rusty crap and will favor the new breed of car.....
