To enhance the appeal of basketball on GTPlanet, I decided to come up with a few different threads for basketball fans. The London 2012 Olympic Summer Games are coming up, and among the many sports, is basketball. Anyone wanting to chat about Olympic basketball is free to discuss it here. Even with some of the injuries on the Team USA men's national team side, some are talking about how the US National Team may be vulnerable against teams like Spain.

Olympic basketball for men and women. Olympic basketball for this year's London 2012 Olympics. Olympic basketball past and present. If it's basketball at the Olympics, it's fair game for discussion here. So let's talk Olympics basketball!

Here are the alignments for the 2012 Olympic Basketball teams:

--- Men ---
GROUP A:
Lithuania
Tunisia
USA
France
Nigeria
Argentina

GROUP B:
China
Great Britain
Brazil
Australia
Russia
Spain

--- Women ---
GROUP A:
Angola
China
USA
Czech Republic
Croatia
Turkey

GROUP B:
Australia
Brazil
Great Britain
Russia
Canada
France

The Preliminaries begin on July 28 for the women and July 29 for the men. The Quarterfinals begin on August 7 for the women and August 8 for the men. Semifinal action is August 9 for the women and August 10 for the men. Finally, the Finals take place on August 11 for the women and August 12 for the men. May the best men's and women's teams win.

I'm looking forward to it, even without Bogut Australia is stronger than I anticipated, and judging by recent form Patty Mills is better than ever (I seriously don't understand why he isn't a regular rotation player in the NBA, even great NBA players heap praise on him like Chris Paul).
We just played 2 game against Spain (world #2) and lost by 6pts in each but with heavily biased officiating, so much so that I'm told the Boomers form and the Spanish officiating has been quite the topic around the webs.
There'll be no stopping USA though, they'll get the gold.

Edit: Upon further evaluation I don't think many teams have played all their cards in these exhibition games yet. Does anyone know where an Aussie can watch the Olympic basketball?
