Thaaaaaat might present a problem then. I'll look into it more when I get home from work.

I've seen people do 24 hour races online (in threads here if I remember right, but again I'm not sure), but I'm in doubt how to set such up.

I just did a little testing, and the Mazda is great around Spa. If we were to use Le Mans, we'd need a little more power, as in a car which tops out at 130mph-ish it is just a little bit dull around there.
Exactly what I have been saying but everyone liked Le Mans.
So out of Le Mans and Spa I vote Spa.

Going to put some laps in at Spa in the MX-5 TC. I still like the idea of the 'ring because the straight gives players a reasonable chance to rest their arms and shoulders, and have a bit of a wriggle in the seat (and slap themselves in the face a few times :D)

edit: to be honest I'm thinking more of making the endurance side of it feasible, rather than the sporting side.. but....

Since there's a lot of time before the event, how about investigating Performance equalising a variety of TC's, so at least there's a selection of a couple of cars at least - just to add in a bit more variety? The TC's are amongst my favourites in the game... with the R32 TC being my favourite..... probably a bad idea, but I just thought I'd suggest it.

The 'Ring gives you a minute rest once every 8 minutes (ish) and the rest of it is frantic. Plus it's just too narrow for actual racing - which we'll be doing some of, I hope. Spa gives you a bumclench every lap, followed by a nice 30 second breather. CdlS's straights are bumpy and nightmareish - the 2 minutes they add up to are not a break.

We did the MX5 TC at Spa for a UKGTP LAN. They were very, very good - but then we did spend some hours testing them. I've conjured up some modifications to them to make them a little more fun but not any more stressful - and we've spent some hours testing those too.

I'll be creating some PSN accounts for the GWR lobby so that we don't get any outside interference and it's no hassle for me to normalise the cars across the accounts. We can also do numbers (hooray for TCs!) and colours on them for which, when everyone eventually agrees that I'm right, I'll be reserving #6 and Ferrari Viola Dino :D

...In which case I'm having Rosso Proteo Metallizzato and #14 :D

When I was testing the TC at Spa, Pouhon was the most bumclench-y, as it was almost flat, whereas Eau Rouge was pretty easily flat.

Do you have the tune for the MX-5 handy @Famine?

Spa seems the best choice then.
I would also need a tune as I truly suck at setting the thing up. Any chance of some help?

For numbers erm I am uncreative so 1 or 7 or something random. You can't go into triple figures can you? I would have had 103.

For colours I would need a bit of time to look at them. I need a copy of GT6 first.

I keep thinking about it and I do really want to be a driver. I'm not sure I could do it, but I think it'd be really cool to be a driver. @W3HS Can you put me down as a driver, tentatively? I'd like to try going at least 24 hours when I get back to uni, but before uni actually starts. That way I'll know for sure whether I should drive or not.

Oh, and if we're reserving car numbers and colours, I'll have 42. I rather like BRG but that's taken, so I'd probably like a dark metallic blue.

Close! Seeing as we're putting down numbers. 43 please.

I like BRG as well, damn.
I guess I will go turquoise because I have no taste. Or maybe a grey.

Actually a red may be my choice. I really need to see the car in all the colours first.

Have we had any luck with a venue yet? If not maybe the National Motorcycle Museum would be OK with it. The right sort of venue (kind of), lots of open space and Birmingham is pretty easy to get to, even from abroad as the museum is right next to the airport.

Another, more pessimistic, point; if the record has recently been broken to 14 minutes less than we're aiming for is it easy to change our target to more than 36 hours, should it be broken again?

So you did.

The MX-5 TC?! I think I would stop because of boredom before I did of tiredness.
What would your suggestion be then?

Provided the venue allows for the extra time, I don't see why not.

Though ask any of the drivers after 36 hours if they wouldn't mind going for a bit longer and I suspect the resulting responses wouldn't be repeatable on GTP.

I've had another thought, incidentally.

Given that this record is probably some distance away from happening at the moment, I'd actually propose that we aim to do a practice at some point in the future for maybe 24 hours or so.

It could be done entirely online, rather than all meeting in the same place, as a dropped connection wouldn't be that much of a bummer. It'd more be a half-decent practice to see who is actually up to sitting at a Playstation for a stupid number of hours at a time. People would then have the time to drop out if they wanted before an actual record took place. Theoretically, I suspect if I was able to play a videogame for 24 hours straight I'd probably be fine with 36. But if after 18 hours of the game I was flagging, it might be a sign that 36 isn't a good one to aim for.

If we do attempt a practice run, I'm thinking some time in early 2015 for that. By that time I should have my own place at least so potentially we'd be able to get a few UK peeps together so it's a bit less of a solitary pursuit.

Yes I would be up for that assuming I don't have uni lectures the next day or during the 24 hours.
I will be on a pad though as I don't have a wheel.

I'm absolutely up for a practice run. I was planning on doing it all alone, but I think a group practice is a brilliant idea. I don't have a wheel, but there's a very slim chance I might have one in six months, provided I have no self discipline and enough money.

I'd join, not sure if I could do the whole 24 hours as I'd have to fit it around my personal life wheras I'll book time off work for the real thing.

The completely un-fettled MX-5 TC on Racing Hard tyres laps in the region of 2:36/2:37 ish, which allowing for 10 minute breaks every hour means if we're consistent we should be able to squeeze about 700 laps in :D

Really. Well, I knew I wasn't the fastest, but wow, after a few laps I'm struggling to get it below 2:38!

edit: Totally up for @homeforsummer suggestion of a practice run. Was going to be doing it once or twice before hand anyway... I thought I'd maybe try it during the Daytona 24 or Dubai 24, so I can have MotorsTV or RLM on in the background and get some atmosphere :D

What would your suggestion be then?

My choice would be GT500 cars mainly because they're enjoyable to drive. The MX5 TC has nothing about it which makes me want to drive it for more than 10 minutes. But for a 36 hour race within GT, I guess it's an ok candidate.

I was thinking the same thing too. If everyone runs a couple 24-hour solo practice sessions then a group one we should be ready for a 36-plus hour run. That said, a question: how comfortable are the pods for sitting in for long long stints?

Probably a whole lot more than the edge of my bed and my foldable wheel stand setup.

2:38 is pretty reasonable to be fair! I did a couple of laps and set a 2:37.1, but the lap wasn't perfect so a 2:36 is certainly possible.

I think the longest I've used one of the pods in a single sitting is about an hour, which given the breaks we're allowed is pretty comparable. I think they'll be fine; the pods have fairly swanky Recaro bucket seats set on a sliding rail which means they're quite comfy.

If I was being fussy I'd say they're set a little too high, but that might actually be a benefit when you're thirty hours in and just want to slouch in the seat..

Yeah, actualy I just tried it in a race (rather than time trial) and the draft was worth another 10-15mph, so that's probably the key.

MX5 TC at Spa sounds reasonable and should be a fun race as well.

@W3HS and @Famine I know it might be a long shot for a venue but what about the Festival of Speed?
