I've been thinking about those who would love full-contact online racing in the GT series. I think of tournaments that people would want to participate in. And with my idea of Racing Modifications, we may see specially-painted cars to reflect certain online teams. For the purpose of being able to come up with our own series and not look to existing championships, I want to know what kinds of online tournaments and championships you would want to see. Some of you may even opt to talking about custom-made series with a number of laps and different configurations. I would like to ask that these makeshift championships and tournaments will NOT be part of 100% completion because this is online material. More advanced options would be about coming up with photos and graphics to fully illustrate an online racing championship or tournament as opposed to some generic pictures and generic graphics to represent a championship. What championships and tournaments would you like to see with an online-enabled GT? I'll begin with championship samples and tournament samples. Don't get on me if any of the cars and races seem generic, plain, uncreative, or whatever. These are just samples and not intended to be full-on great ideas.

CHAMPIONSHIP SAMPLES
"American Mustang Challenge" - Only Ford and Shelby Mustangs from all years
The American Mustang Chalenge is a competitive road racing challenge around American tracks in GT4. A championship would consist of Sears Point (screw the "Infineon Raceway" deal) Stock Car Course (NASCAR Nextel Cup will do some REAL racing for once next weekend here, while the other two series are scared of road courses and have to go to the Milwaukee Mile), , Laguna Seca, Seattle Circuit Normal, Sears Point - Sports Car Course, and finish in New York City. The beautiful 1960s Mustangs all the way up to the 2005 Mustangs are allowed. Unlimited tuning unless you want street cars vs. fully-modified race cars.

"Civic World Challenge" - all variations of the Honda Civic allowed
The Honda Civic is the car of choice for this championship. All variations will be available for road racing in its native Japan and around the world. Championship rounds vary, but all variations of the Honda Civic will be allowed in a competitive road racing series with an inexpensive car with hidden potential with tuning. Some of you may say, "who cares about a 'wrong-wheel drive' Civic raced around by a bunch of grocery getting 'fanboys?'" As I stated earlier, this is not about people wanting to race the fastest cars all to enjoy crashing into the walls at Nüburgring Nordschleife. Different people have different love of cars.

"Corvette vs. Aston Martin" - all variations of Corvette up against the DB series of Aston Martins
This is the latest GT1 rivalry as the Corvette C6-R is the dominating car of GT racing of late. However, it doesn't mean that the Aston Martins will just sit idly and let the Corvettes dominated every GT class of racing. It's Chevy vs. Ford of a different kind as the more beautiful (in my opinion) Aston Martin DBR9 takes on the yellow beasts from GM. This challenge consists of the many Corvettes over the years up against the Aston Martin DB series (DB6, DB7, etc.). Championship events can consist of the following: Twin Ring Motegi - Full Road Course, Suzuka Circuit - Full, Laguna Seca, Sears Point- Sports Car Course, and (your choice) Circuit de la Sarthe or Nürburgring Nordschleife.

These are only a few samples of championship ideas you can think of. Let's look to tournaments now.

TOURNAMENT SAMPLES
"Skyline Smackdown" - all variations of the Nissan Skyline except racing models
This is a tournament with variations of the Skyline enabled. A field of 16 Skylines will all compete on one track in a knockout format. The first round includes 16 going down to 8. The remaining 8 is whittled down to 4. The remaning four will become 2. The final round will be a one-on-one race to determine a pure champion.

"GT Madness" - (assume that the Radical SR3 will be in GT5) that must be painted with school colors.
This will be the ultimate online event. In the spirit of Division 1 NCAA college basketball, this is a series of equally-matched cars to make for a very interesting series. Cars must be painted up in a certain schoo's colors. For example, the University of North Carolina must be painted up in Tar Heel blue and the white color as well as the UNC logo. Oklahoma Sooners fans will have their cars painted up in crimson and cream. The Kentucky Wildcats would have to bear their lovely blue color with the white. Non-football school St. John's would have to be in the scarlet and red colors of this New York City-area school. Four groups of 16-car fields will take center stage with only one car of one school. So you won't see a two or three-car field for only one school. Each "regional" would consist of the same knockout format until it becomes 16 to 8, 8 to 4, 4 to 2, and then finally a regional champion. And true to the NCAA Final Four, the final four players will play in their regional matchups until there are two left to win it all. This would have to be a multi-layer tournament with the four regional winners winning it all. I don't know about an international format of racing among colleges and universities much like in Formula SAE or Formula Baja.

So let's talk online championships and tournaments. What'cha like, players? And one last thing- enjoy Summer 2006.
