Online is so toxic. PSA

I play maybe 3 hours a week online, so I'm not great. I make mistakes. I brake late or have the wrong racing line. Immediately get tagged as a "drty" driver and then it's open season on me getting punted by anyone that passes me.

Just a PSA that not all racing incidents are on purpose, and maybe give folks a benefit of the doubt?

People are often rude and self centered.

One thing you can do as a less experienced player who makes mistakes. When you approach a corner together with another car who is ahead, brake slightly earlier to avoid a crash. One thing I did wrong in retrospect is always approach the corner as if the other car wasn't there, which caused collisions I should have avoided. This annoys other players. If the other car is ahead, you should yield way, that avoids a lot of annoyance.

I presume you stopped as soon as it was safe to do so to give the place back and typed an apology into chat mid-race, there is nothing more you can do. People get mad mid-race when they've done nothing wrong and had their race ruined, like on Sunday Charles Leclerc called Lando Norris a dick for taking him out the race, I bet they're best pals again now a few hours have passed.

You think Max and Louie are best pals again after their contact?

For my experience, the hell doesn't break loose because of a misjudged brake or something like that.
Sure, if you punt someone unintentionally because you are fighting for the same piece of tarmac, sometimes the other guy will punt you back.
But never experienced something like a united front against just because of that.

Maybe you should save some of your races and watch it later paying attention. Probably your behaviour and placement on track is more erratic than you think and it's hard to other players to realize what you are going to do next

It’s racing

Half the people gonna say it’s your fault for not being better, and the other half will say it’s others responsibility to watch for slower drivers and maintain distance and awareness knowing it’s a game with plenty of diversity of skill.

Both will get aggravated when it happens to them and start upping the % of aggression in thier driving as an immediate human reaction if it happens to them.

The only part that’s in your control is to not get discouraged, not let it get to you, and keep practicing to get better.

Mistakes happen to all of us. If you can, give the position back AND apologize after or better during the race.
I know how mad I get when so killes me during the race, to that time I don`t care if it was with intent or not. But I am always calm if so says sorry - and watch replays of your race, that helped me a lot to realize, if I was the idiot or the other driver ;)

ONE QUESTION: I use the Nissan Skyline on Race C (1:14:435) but I am struggeling with my front tires in the 4th lap. What can I do to save tires and to help my tires stay alive longer...

Honestly, the occasional late brake or small error I can live with. The thing I hate is, when you come side by side on a longer straight to overtake and they just steer in to you. Why are you even racing online if you like that? There are other games where you can wreck cars for fun that are o lot better suited to this.

I pulled over to pit lane, swept out the other drivers box and handed out doughnuts. Still told I was a dirty player. :)

When I get punted off track in a braking zone I determine the other person's intent by how long it takes me to catch them if I can. If I'm on his tail within a lap and easily cruise past I will assume it was just an honest mistake. When it takes me 5 laps to catch the guy who punted me I realize he is close to my speed and probably likely punted me out of his way to gain an easy position and he may be getting his own trip to the sandbox. If I can't catch them at all I decide I need to get faster.

Better to chat afterwards IMO. Mid race is distracting for the others.

I hadn't thought of it like that, imo it's no more distracting than the message when somebody quits, I actually like reading the arguments mid-race as a bit of light entertainment!

Perhaps. But for entertainment purposes it disappears too quickly then.

As for apologies, most people who've been pushed off are most likely going to wait for the offender to write something in the post-race chat. Or initiate contact there themselves.

You can move the brake bias to the rear tires, so you're using up less of the fronts for braking, it might help on tire wear.

@CDNBlack Flag you will really benefit from doing the qualifying laps.
  • It helps you learn the track and your own cars characteristics
  • Also during practice, try taking the inside and outside lines through the corners, this will be slower than optimal times, but the practice will help you avoid collisions, and also pass people
  • You will know your consistent laptimes and best of all you can compare it to the people you are matched with
  • If someone has slower laptime than you, expect them to brake early etc
  • Most people race clean, and want to earn that next position, just give them space
  • Some people will race dirty no matter what, you can just remember their username and avoid them during races.
